My first trip to the 1/4 mile
well last night after work my friends and i went to the St. thomas dragway and i met up with johnyIroc there. my friend with the 302 powered ranger and i were planning on racing head to head a few times. well....the first time we pulled into the lanes and were all set to go, his truck started over heating and that was the end of that head to head race. the second time we were set to go, his truck wouldnt stay running. so we never did get to go head to head. i was able to get 6 runs in and my best was a 15.69 @ 88.39 MPH. i was hoping i would be at least in this range, so i guess am i pleased. hopefully when i get my new exhaust on i can shave a tniy little bit off that. however, one race i ended up going head to head with an Integra, and boy did i get my *** handed to me: he ran a 14.44. i also went head to head with a new trans am (not sure what year for sure...but i think maybe a 99) and i actually had him for a bit, but he ended up beating me with a 15.03; but i dont think he was concentrating on the race. he had at least 2 ladies in the car with him while racing....so the race was much, much closer than it should have been. johnyIroc and i werent able to go head to head (altoguh we all know i would have been killed) cause he was having some carb problems and as a result he couldnt get his car to run right.
i had a blast doing my first ever 1/4 mile runs and will for sure be back soon.

I had an awesome time.... I will be doing it again very soon, possibly tonight. My TH350 is totally munched. I have to lift my foot completely off the throttle in between shifts to allow the gear to drop. I still managed to smoke a newer V8 stang, but no times worth mentioning.
For all you experienced guys, how do you get traction with street tires? I was still frying at the 1/8 mile mark. I couldn't get around the water box in the lane they kept putting me in (the water went all the way across the track), so I had to heat my street tires. I think this only made things worse.
excuses excuses....
It was still a blast, and not scary at all. I was expecting the heart racing white nuckle thing...

I usually go around the water pit....and just turn the tires a little bit to clean off some of the crap... If you warm up street tires you have to make sure they have about a 200 treadware on them (supposely) the lower the number the stickier the tire... I just bought some brand new Toyo's for my car with a 300 rating...so it should be a good mix i think.. But I never smoke my radials at the track.. I find they get warm and stay that way... and that makes for bad launches...

Yea... I can't wait to get back. I need to get this trans out, but that guy gave me the wrong stuff for my speedo conversion. I shouldn't have gone back and paid him
I just put a new centre link in, and the car feels 1000x better. I just need ball joints and SFCs, and it'll be smooooth.

Yea... after all that. The stuff doesn't even come close to fitting in the hole. I'm going to go back and kill him, but I don't trust the guy to get the right stuff. I think I'm going to the dealer this time.
I will be doing the swap as soon as I get all the parts. Hopefully during the week. I really want it in for GB.

darbie... if you get a really good exhaust.. you can shave at LEAST .5 seconds off... When you get your exhaust done... get the guy to go beyond the catalytic, and cut the y-pipe close to where the passengers side pipe comes in, get him to cut the metal protruding into the perpendicular pipe. Just look in there with a flash light, and you'll see what I mean.
