Wiper Problem's??
Wiper Problem's??
Hey all, I need some advice , I haven't been driving my car for the last couple off week's (to busy working ,home improvement's etc) Anyway I took it out for a blast yesterday and discovered my wiper's no longer work properly, I turned them on to wash the window and they made a couple of swipes then stopped in the up position , after driving like that for twenty minutes or so they returned to the "rest"position. The next time I tried them they wouldn't work at all, then the next time they seemed to work O.K . Now they won't work at all.
Anybody have any suggestion's? The fuse is good, there is no extra play in the switch . Does anyone Know which relay controls the wiper's?
Any idea's will be gratefully received .........SR
Ps. I think the car is just "P"ed off 'cause I haven't been driving it.......lol

Look at the wiper motor itself- there is a copper 'tab' that attaches to one of the mounting bolts- this will corrode over time and crack in half and then motor is not grounded properly resulting in no wiper function.
Another possibility if you have intermittent wipers is the control board attached to the motor itself (right under the plastic cover)- age may have finally gotten to it as well.

That tab is also linked to the rad fan as well. With it disconnected on my car, I had no rad fan and no wipers lol. I didn't make the link as to why my car was overheating till it rained and had no wiper control, looked inside fiddled around sparked and realized something wasn't connected. connected it and voila got rad fan and wipers in 1 shot.
Thank's Guy's,You both hit the nail on the head.........I came home from work tonight and hooked up a ground test lead from the wiper motor mounting bolt to one of the shock tower bolt's and Ta Daa the wiper's work (I wish all repair's/troubleshooting were that easy).........Thank's again.......SR

u think u had a problem with wipers, let me tell u mine!
bought a 1991 rs (old car) last summer. Was driving down the 401 from courtney park back to toronto while it was raining. suddenly, my wiper blades just get stuck at the very bottom, i hear clicking every 5 seconds, and they don't work.
so, what do i do, i stick my head out the window... WOOSH there goes my hat... dam didn't think fast enough to take my brand new hat off first.
so like a dog, i drive with my head out, controllling, for about 5-10 kms, where i stop in a parking lot and call for help.
i ended up selling the car in september with the problem. i only told the buyer about it after the cash was in my hand though ;P

-a simple wiper motor swap would've fixed your problem, sorry to say.
The clicking is only one of two things- if you have intermittent wipers it is either the cam that controls the activation/deactivation of the wiper movement (i.e. the delay) has cracked (plastic) or the drive gears on the motor itself are gummed up or disintegrated (plastic gears- do NOT lube with a petroleum lubricant). Regular wipers (i.e. not intermittent)- drivegears are plugged with hardened lube or disintegrated outright.
