When It Rains, It Pours 2!!! Grrrr

Well... now its my version of "When it rains, it pours"

First of all, just figured out where my coolant leak was a few days ago, and it was the intake gasket.

NOW, I go to Mapleview tonight for the car show, and what happens when I get there!!!!!????? The water pump just gives and pisses out coolant!! Sheesh!! So, tomorrow will be "replace water pump" day. Doesn't look hard at all. Remove air intake ducts for working room, then the belt, then the water pump... easy stuff. does a genuine GM pump have an advantage over a Parts Source pump?

The main reason to go with an aftermarket water pump is for the improved impeller design, getting more coolant flow out of the hp it's using. But I doubt a generic P/S pump would be much better than stock. Unless you're trying to enhance your cooling system, I'd go with whichever is cheaper.

I'll PM you my number if you want a hand with it.

stewart racing water pumps

Check out this thread. The 3rd gen waterpumps can be a pain if you get a cheap one expect to see coolant on the ground in another 10-15k. I'd definitely go for one of these units...

I went with the AC Delco brand new water pump.. nice unit, came painted black already, and the neck where the lower rad hose goes on, was machined I've never seen that before.

Anyway, got the pump on, and a new lower rad hose.... one problem, can't get the damn bolts off the pulley on the old pump!!!! Goint to head to my buddies garage (where I store the car during winter) and see if the impact gun will break em free.

Got the pulley off... it needed the Impact gun to do it.. came off easy with that.

As far as I can see, there is no leaks, well except for my intake leak

So thats it thats all for now.

So how did you find it? When I replaced mine a few months ago it wasn't bad...but it took about twice as long as I thought to replace it. Thank *** I don't have AC to deal with.

You know what... it was just as easy, if not easier than doing it on my old old 1979 Parisienne... what made it easier was the fact there is only one belt to remove, and the one belt is a sinch to remove, gotta love serpentine systems. Like I said earlier, the hardest part was getting the bolts out for the pulley, which was easily solved with a visit to my freinds dads body shop.. good ole impact guns

And yeah.. I don't know why they bleep out g-o-d... kinda rediculous if you ask me. You can say satan, devil, buddha, and every other religion's idol.... lol... you can even say Billy Idol

That's what I expected. My brother and I still laugh about that shop that wanted to charge me over $40 each for new upper and lower rad hoses. Something about special hoses... Yeah, we all know how unusual V8 Firebirds are.

Oh yeah, the g0d thing. I noticed that in one of my first posts. Who's the genius who figured we couldn't handle that word?

Yeah no kidding, we pretty much laughed at the guy when he told us the price for the hoses. He pushed for it but pfft... no. The waterpump was reasonable though, which is what I was stuck for at the time. Over a couple of weeks I got those guys to put in a new rad, thermostat, and waterpump during my unexpected stopleak ordeal (long story). Would you believe they actually put the old rad cap on the new rad? Cheap bastards...

It's a tire shop in Burlington, on Harvester just east of Appleby. Offhand I can't remember the name. Unless I get stuck at work again (just on the other side of Appleby) I won't be back.

Hey don't knock the locking CT caps. It had a generic non-locknig CT cap on it and I was losing coolant somewhere after the pump/rad work and after I replaced the heater core. I splurged on the locking cap (an extra couple of bucks. lol) and it solved the problem. Hey whatever works...

I had an AC/Delco one on mine and it leaked under pressure. Went to CT and bought a $5 Motorad one and it works for me...

Luckily I am not one of those people that have to be " All AC/Delco - GM parts or nothing" ... a rad cap is a rad cap IMO....hey, if it works at the proper pressure, keeps the system pressurized and don't leak

Big from me

The only part I do insist on are AC/Delco plugs... IMO are the best plugs for our cars. And not those rapid fire ones..I'm talking about the regular plugs...

Cant agree with u more. True. true, true. Stock plugs all the way, no matter what u've got done to the motor.
