coil is too freaking BIG where do I put it ?
Ok hopefully the last chapter in the Jacobs ignition system saga of mine is mounting the setup.
The computer is no bif deal I mounted it above my battery it seems to work ok there. But the coil is a piece of work it is about 6 inchs cube'd and I don't know where I can mount it without it getting in the way ???
Check the pic it is small there is a limit of 102k that I can post. It is currently stuffed in the corner of the engine bay with a towel to stop everything from scratching everything. Yes I know it is mickey mouse tats why I am posting. Any ideas where to mount it ?
Oh yeah the coil wire is about 3 feet long and the rest of the wiring is about 8-10 feet long.

Hmmm...that's a tough one. If you're gonna be at the drag day, I might be able to think up some better ideas in person. I don't have the unit anymore, but I was going through the same debate with the MSD 6A. It's not an easy decision.
Just a suggestion, Why not mount it in the interior of the car (passenger side), That will get it away from the heat/moisture present under the hood.
The only drawback I can think of is that it likely get's fairly warm so you wouldn't want to be near any trim bit's that will melt.....................SR

do you have A/C on the formula?......if not there might be room some where around the heater core/firewall........at least on my TA there is some room there....it sounds like you have lots of length for your coil wire......however there may not be room around the heater box in your newer, fuel injected formula.

I have my ignition box mounted on the passenger side strut tower. I don't remember how tall the Ultra Coils are but it should fit.

From what I remember seeing on your car, there seems to be enough space on the drivers side mounted to the wheel well above the fuel lines in front of the brake line. The only fault I can see is that if you wanted to get headers some fitting issue may arise. The coil itself I think is fairly well insulated, if not, some header wrap would protect the coil from the header. What I'd do is reroute the fuel lines lower and then and hijack the space where they where for the coil. I had to replace my fuel lines from engine to pump this year so I know that they are only kept in place in that area by a few easy to reach bolts, once undone, they can be manuvered lower. At the same time I'd insulate the fuel lines too while you were at it since the headers in that area give off a lot of heat anyways. The standard plastic they use only protects the most direct closest area the lines and the headers could be around only 6 inches of guard...

Right Strut Tower
I have the Jacobs Ultra Team Ignition on my 88 IROC and mounted the Ultra Coil on the passenger side strut tower. You'll have to remove that thin brace the factory put connecting the firewall and passenger side fender.
I don't have pictures, but I drilled two holes on the top of the tower near the camber plate and it's held down with two self taping screws supplied from Jacobs. You may have to rearrange the stock wiring harnesses if needed.
The hood closes with no problems. The coil does touch the insulation on the hood. I've had it in this location with no problems for 6 years now.
As for the Jacobs ignition box, I mounted it in front of the radiator (cool side). I've had no problems with it here for 6 years. The ignition box is weathered due to being exposed to moisture during the rain.

Curious what gap are you running your plugs at ?

I run NGK spark plugs (no precious metal tips) with a .055 inch gap. Sometimes .060 inch. I haven't really kept track of mileage gains or power increases since changing the plugs with stock cast iron manifolds, lack of space is really time consuming.

Oh yeah, I mounted the ignition box on that long angled bracket in front of the radiator and not directly on the radiator.
