Holy CRAP! How do you guys manage to do this to new engines? It's like De Ja Vu with Paul's pushrod incident.

I'm sure you'll get it all back together... If I were you I'd rebuild it yourself. Don't let this "engine builder" near your car again.

Good luck, and make sure you check all the valves, pushrods and lifters... if you snapped a rocker, chances are there was some good stress on the whole valve train.

Well.....1 bent pushrod & some other probs.

Going to have to do a compression test & make sure there's no broken rings or bent valves....

After that if it checks OK we pull the intake and check out those cam lobes/lifters....

If that check out we pull the timing cover & make sure the cam isnt off a tooth.

There is defietly something wrong other than timing & carb....IMO.

He'll be OK though, just gonna have to work out his moron builders ****-ups

Called the old man today and told him what went down...
I also told him not to let that cracker touch his car EVER.
He was somewhat defensive, then i told him what was going on.

Carm, he said that it's always sounded like there was a bad lifter in that back passenger area, but Craig.aka. Cracker, said it just need to get pumped up with oil. So I'm wondering if that noise we're hearing is the bad lifter, in which case i have some extra's a dad's place from the 350.

I hope to G.od it's JUST a bad lifter, if compression test fails.... oh ****!

Sorry to hear about the bad luck dude. Sounds like you have the right folks helping you out now though, and hopefully you guys can get that motor sorted out.

The engine builder, does he run his own shop? Is he a family friend? Did he provide any warrantee with the motor? With all the screw ups this guy has caused, I'd seriously consider trying to get some form of compensation. Keep a good record of everything that has gone wrong with the motor, it may be useful in the future.

This guy is just a friend of my dad's that he met when he painted my car. He came over and did all the work assembling the motor in my Dads garage. I can't really do to much other than let my Dad know how I feel cause he's still friends with him, and plus dad paid for the motor till i can get a job.

Which by the way guys, I have a 4th interview tomorrow in which they're making me a salary offer!!!!!!!!

DAVE.....if that has always sounded like that the intake must come off.

You might not like what it looks like uder there. When you overtighten a rocker that much, usually it really screws up the lifter (flat-tappet style, as rollers are more forgiving).

If you have a concaved lifter, there is a very likely chance the cam lobe is ****ed as well.

We'll have to take it one step at a time. Although it would be nice to know whats going on uderneath the intake, we'll start to see if the valves are all holding first.

I hate rednecks. And i hate when people get screwed from builders. It's happened to me, and it definetly wont anymore.

Also, you cant re-use a lifter (flat-tappet be it hydraulic or solid) on any other cam other than the one it came from. And it is lobe specific as well, so you cant just put it on any lobe. This is why you have to keep the lifters in order if you plan on re-using them.

We'll see how it goes. My intake is coming off tonight, it will be back on tommorrow. And Thurs we may rip yours off & see whats going on under there.

Sounds good. Don't forget about that compression tester from your buddy. If I can get it, me and paul will test the cylinders tonight or tomorrow. Then, maybe we'll pull off the intake just incase to see what it's like.

The cam better not be screwed, cause I certainly don't have the cash for a cam.

He may be your Dad's friend, that doesn't make him an expert, when, from the sounds of things, he is clearly NOT. Friendships and constant f**k-ups don't mix, you can go somewhere else for help and still have your father and him be friends, if he's any kind of guy, he'll feel bad, but want you to have a reliable car, he shouldn't be offended. Your the one suffering now. Take it elsewhere.

If anything breaks on my car I have no one to blame but myself...
The good and bad aspects of rebuilding yourself.

As much as friendships go, I'd pay the extra cash if it meant I'd have a 100% reliable car... for me I have no choice, my car is way to meshed into my lifestyle that any f-up no matter minor can hurt me badly...

Do it once, do it right...

I'm not THAT old, but sometimes I feel it. Wanna hear terrible luck...

Sunday night Camaro breaks, Tuesday afternoon, wife calls Sunfire crapped out( it was nothing big)

TODAY!!! My Tempo catches fire!!!

My wiring harness rubbed through and grounded itself out at the alternator side and literally caught on fire(the wires).
I ripped off the rad support, and ripped the wiring harness out.
Ordered a new one from the wreckers, what a week.
