How rare are the 85-86 tpi's?

I have yet to see a 85-86 TransAm or Z with a factory tpi.

How many are made , and do you have one ?

I don't believe they are that rare...unfortunately I don't have the numbers handy. I've seen quite a few 305 TPI Z28/IROC's from 85-86 though.

I agree with IROCER in that I don't believe that they are that rare either, unless you are talking about the L98 in 86 then yes that one is rare.

I also do not have any numbers handy.

If you do get an 85 or 86 tpi car then lean more towards to 85 because I believe it has more hp than the 86 due to a cam change.

And no I don't have the tpi but rather the extremly high horsepowered LG4 (lmao, sorry bad joke )

My 86 is a 305 TPI. A few times when i have went to the parts stores, they dont always have a listing for 86 TPI though. So they figure that the car was made late in 86 and got an 87 motor in it. Yes my RPO's match up with everything.
I have no idea on numbers or anything for u though, sorry.
I have my doubts they are rare either.

Last summer I helped get my friend a 85 IROC 305 TPI. It isn't that hard to find quite honestly. It's finding one in good condition, that's a hard thing to do.

An 85 tpi t/a was what my father owned in 85 lol...

Not sure if that was the one he dropped the tranny or the one he dented the door the day he got it from the dealership...

do a search on the history board, I have seen the numbers is different posts there. There were a s h i t wack of Iroc Z's in 86 so I can assume that alot of 5l TPI's were made that year.As far as Pontiac is concerned I don't know.

uncommon

85 Z28/IROC and T/As with TPI were very low production cars. I think the '85 TPI'd T/A was lowest production -- I've never seen one. I have seen an '85 Z28 (not IROC) in factory TPI a couple of times as well as a few '85 IROCs with TPI.

Most of the '85 IROC carb'd versions are long since dead and the TPI models tend to be either collected or well taken care of I think this is why we are seeing more of them showing up ?

I don't know much about the 86s.

RP.

I talked to my dad, his was a TPI 85 T/A and yes he killed it...

It was the tranny drop/injectors/people always stealing his center caps that got him riled up about it...
