Got Weighed! Good/Bad?

I got my car weighed because I have been doing alot of drag racing. I'm not sure if these results are good or not. I have a mild 355 in the car right now.

My car:

1983 Z28
-T tops
-Auto (700R)
-Power Steering
-Power Windows/Door Locks
-AC has been removed

RESULTS:

3,250
-without driver
-1/3 tank of gas

3,400
-with driver
-1/3 tank of gas

I think 3400lbs with a driver is about average for our cars. Then again I could be wrong but my GVWR is about close or just over 4000lbs and thats including 4 passengers and a full tank. Each passenger weighting at 180lbs. So that comes too..........3280lbs w/no driver and full tank and 3460lbs with driver and full tank. Just for the record, I got my GVWR from the sticker on my driver side door.

I don't know how much the Camaro rims weigh but lighter aftermarket aluminum rims are one way to go. The driveshaft helps. I took my spare tire kit out. That was alot of stuff to change one tire. A good 40 pounds. Aluminum heads. I'm sure yours are the stock cast iron. Fiberglass hood. Heard it only weighs 40 pounds or something like that.

Now this is just a suggestion and it may seem radical but.....and you seem crazy enough to do this.......replace your rear hatch glass with plexi glass (or whatever it's called). You'll loose some serious weight with that. Then again your rear will be all over the place with the torque your putting out.

Anyways, these are just some ideas off the top of my head. If you go to the tech section on this board, someone has posted an article on how to loose weight. Cool stuff.

Seems pretty fair to me.

-Just as a comparison, my 2nd Gen. w/bigblock nothing removed for weight savings (no A/C), 1/2 tank of gas and me in it: 4050lbs.

Car: 90 IROC 5.7 hardtop
Engine: L98
Transmission: T5 swap
Axle/Gears: Yup -- they still work
autos vs. stick

The T-5 I am told weighs about 78 lbs. The 700R4 I am told weighs about 300 lbs (do tell if you have the exact number).
The ground effects and power options for GTAs and IROCs supposedly can add from 55 to 175 lbs depending on year and power options, A/C etc.

Quite a spread eh ?

I wouldn't be surprised if some GTAs come in at 3500-3600lbs ? I haven't looked lately but I think my door sticker says 3150lbs ? I'll take a look tonight.

A guy I work with says his 4th gen is around 3800lbs. That can't be right.

RP.

I think that a fiberglass hood is a very good investment for weight savings. The stock hood on my car was very heavy, I estimate it to weigh about 150-175lbs. The hood I have on my car weighs no more than 40lbs.

no way a stock hood is even close to that. it would have to weight the same as me if that was true.

I have the "factory glass" hood on my car.... I don't know how much either of them weigh... but I can tell you that the factory glass is at least half of a factory steel.

700R4s are heavy turds that shift slow and are pretty weak. I hate mine... acceld i actually read some crap like that in a magazine. they were saying how it would be cheaper for the driver to loose the weight than to buy aluminum heads and all that stuff. Theres a fatass that drives a 89 corvette with a super ram and afr heads cam etc. around here. nice guy but big boneded!

LOL, dude, i'm pretty big boneded myself. I'm also 6'5" so i'm as tall as I am wide I've seen that guys car, it's nice. He has a similar setup to mine but he has a weak cam. You should swing by Kemptville this weekend if you have the opportunity.

I would if i could but my cars apart till I get some headers on there. Sitting in the garage with the plenum and runners off. I could put the crap back on and run it with the exhaust leak but its pretty brutal, performance, economy and definately sound wise. Its the only thing I got insurance for now. When I get all this crap put on I will swing by.

Hey Trigger, how do you know it doesn't weigh that much? You just sound like a dumbass trying to flame someone, when you don't know the facts.

I've taken off my hood before, doesn't weigh even close to 150 lbs else I would have a hell of a time taking it off. It's more around 100-120 lbs range as I remember. Still really heavy.

As for the 700r4 tranny, all I know is that it weighs A LOT. 300 lbs may be a little too much, I'm thinking around 250 lbs avg... but I have to say that I could barely budge that unit.

i would like to start by thanking you for calling me a dumb ***.

so tell me what are the facts? when you weighed your hood what did the scale say?

maybe you are right and the hood is 175... I guess i am just exceptionally strong and you would be...

if you want facts fine. why dont you prove it to everyone that the hood is 175. show me some facts.

There is no way the stock hood on a thirdgen weighs 175lbs. I've had to stroll around the yard with both of mine several times and I can easily lift them by myself.

Can my car be 4100 lbs???

I looked on the door sticker and it has 3 different weights listed... one says something like GMVR 4150 lbs.... and the other two (can't remember what they are) say 2230 lbs (or close to it can't remember off the top of my head)...

Is this right??? The VIN is the same as on the windshield so I know it isn't another sticker put on there???

I thought I read somewhere that the 87 Camaro IROC-Z was something like 3200 lbs....

If my car is 4150 lbs then with my fat *** in it she is going to tip the scales at about 4370 lbs... this can't be right!!!

GMVR 4150 lbs is the total weight of the car and everything that it can hold. fully loaded the car can not weigh more than that #.
that # includes people, bags, and if you were towing something the weight on the hitch. the other two weights are a break down of max weight front or back that the wheels and shocks can safly hold at one time.

Thought I was losing it there for a minute... talk about a tank if that was the weight of my car!! hehehe .. I'd need a 502 to move it!!

So what designates the curb weight on that sticker?? Is there something I should look for?
