Back from the mechanic for clutch/leaks... WOOHOO or BOOHOO... you decide! dundundun.

So I went to my mechanic. The second I got there I started talking to the guy who put in my new clutch. I told him my problem, and he said without even looking at my car "you need a new clutch". I'm like "wtf, I just replaced it, too soon for it to go because of me". He starts telling me stories that one trip to the dragway can **** up a clutch. He said when he use to drag his cars he would go through a clutch a day.

Anyway, on the way to the mechanic, the clutch slipped about 3-5 times on the way there. So they put it up on the hoist. I look, NO LEAKS AT ALL! I only had a little hole by the rad which he fixed in 2 seconds, but other than that nothing at all.

HOWEVER, i did notice something interesting. There were no screws in all the holes where the... I think the flywheel cover is if that is what I was looking at (you know that big round thing where the tranny is). There were a set of about 6 holes. There was a screw in one hole, but that's it. So my mechanic (not the guy who changed the clutch, but the guy who owns the shop) quickly screwed in 3 screws.

Then we went for a drive because my mechanic wanted to see EXACTLY what it was that was happening. BUT... for some reason it wasn't slipping anymore. I would try everything, it didn't slip once. I told him I was almost sure it would happen again, and he said if it does bring it by on tuesday and they'll drop the tranny out.

BUT could it be that those screws that were missing was the problem the whole time? I mean, he put the screws in, and it hasn't happened all afternoon since. I am boggled.

Either way, if I need a new clutch I'm putting in a centerforce dual friction. But hopefully I won't need one. YOU GUYS LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!

BY THE WAY...

my mechanic did say the first gear was messed up and the clutch didn't feel right. I told him it's been like that since they changed it, and he was like "uhhhh okay i didn't change it but..."

Easy,
Bring your car to the meet tonight. If you want, I'll take it for a spin and tell you what I think.
I rebuilt my own T5 transmission about 2 years ago so I know them pretty well.

I have had the same stock clutch in my car for 165 000kms been down the 1/4 mile about 50 times and I am just starting to notice problems... If he went through a clutch a day he must have been doing 5000rpm launches... I suggest finding a new mechanic..
If you have to buy a new clutch let me know for I am in the market aswell.. maybe we can get a deal if we buy two...

The "flywheel cover" screws or bellypan screws will have absolutely no effect on the performance of your clutch. Take it back to them and tell them to fix it.

Our cars are made to handle 1/4 mile runs... unless you did some insane driving, dropping clutches here and there I doubt you trashed it...

And what were you thinking telling your mechanic you were drag racing??? Just feed them ammo to use against you and lay the blame on you rather then them...

I talked to a guy I know at UAP. He says we can get a Fenco new not rebuilt clutch with alignment tool and throwout bearing for $221 tax in. A GM unit is about $260 no throwout bearing or alignment tool.

adious,
RP.

I also bought the fenco new-not rebuilt unit a couple of years ago and still working well. So fenco is a decent unit. However if you get an aftermarket performance clutch that might be better but I can't speak from experience there.

Whatever anybody does do not buy a rebuilt clutch because I have heard they do not last very long and are not much less than a new unit.

all I gotta say is ditch that mechanic...sounds like he is lubing you up for a good one up the A$$. A clutch a day...geez I had the same clutch in my swift for 260,000 km and I beat the snot out of it since new, i really find that hard to believe, I think this guy is taking you for a ride simply because you are a younger guy with an alright car.

I wanna look into an aftermarket clutch.. RAM,centreforce or McCleoud... If I put that 350 in this winter I have a feeling I will need something with a little more grabbing power.. Summit had a RAM for 259US... Lets see how many guys are interested in a GP first.... Is safe to say maybe 3 people.. Steve89GTA, Palric and myself??

If so I will make a post on the board to see how many we can get...

Easy did you give the clutch time to break in? or did you beat on it from the start. Thats how I blew my first clutch and that was after about 3 weeks.

A clutch a day??? thats complete . No way in hell you could do that unless you went to the track with objective of ruining your clutch. No one would be that dumb either, a clutch a day would equal a brand new built th350, 700r4, t5 or t56 or even a richmond 4/5/6speed FAST. If he told me that I wouldve just laughed in his face. Also, hes probably the one who messed up with the bolts. Owner sounds like an alright guy though. Just tell him you want him to do the work on your car when you go in. Ive heard bad stories with the mcleod. Do a search somewhere cause I forget the application but the stories werent with montrous race cars or anything.

Only one problem about trying to get the mechanic to fix the problem... You told him you drag raced withit. Warrany is VOID!!!!! Easy...never tell your mechanic or any mechanic that you drag your car... You did yourself in. A clutch a day? If your a women who can't drive a stick Maybe. J/K You beat on that clutch right away, didn't you. You killed it man. Be more easy on new parts in the future,...they last longer that way. Sorry to here of all your troubles with this car.

Your not going to get good results asking that hear. You should go on drivetrain board or find a review site and get some first hand opinions from people who have used em.

CENTERFORCE SUCKS!!!

Sorry guys, i boycott centerforce, they have a huge name and a ****ty product. I had to buy a flywheel from them cause they were my only option, but their clutch i had made no difference from stock and it cost an arm and a leg, and it lasted 2 summers, and the car never made it to the track once.

Go McCleod, go Hays, but don't go Centerforce. Go Ram if you have to but don't waste your money on a centerforce.
Just my personal experience.
