Why don't you guys install a piece of tubing over the strut that can be lowered to the chromed rod portion to LOCK!!! the hood in the up position?

Vise Grips work too! I'll be getting new struts in the spring...don't waste your money on the GM/AC Delco struts. They lasted only one year...even worse than the "not-so" Strong Arm ones from Crappy Tire.

My car's got the fiberglass hood ( it's an '82 ) and I replaced the hood struts a couple of years ago. GM first gave me the wrong ones, the ones for the metal hood. I couldn't even close the hood. This all happened 2 days before the Camaro show. I had to re-order them, wait almost a week, and keep my hood closed for the show. The next set they gave me were missing the clips and the packaging was opened and the struts were dirty. So I waited another week for a fresh set....and finally got them in.

This year the struts started to give out again!
If one of you guys knows where to get a better set (for the fiberglass hood) let me know. Till then, I'm going to use a stick. GM's not getting my money again for these...

Ron...

jason (johnyIROC) has a fiberglass hood as well and he just uses worn ones off a metal hood. cause the fiberglass is so much lighter, the worn out ones from a metal hood should still work fine for the fiberglass.
