What you get, and thinking what you got....
Well... the big "hoopla" lately has been over easySPEED's camaro. Just wanted to post something up, maybe get us all thinking.
How many of you guys bought a car, told you were getting what you want, but in turn got something different?
I know I did... it took a little while to notice.. but I was told the only part of my GTA was painted was the rear quarter, because of a "key" incident. But since then, I've noticed many things that suggest a minor front end collision, complete paint except the roof
and a replaced tranny (which isn't bad). Over all, I still think $7500 for the car was a steal, because I haven't had any major problems with it, and there is no rust at all. And IF there was bodywork done to it... it was good, because there are no waves.
As for easySPEED's Camaro, I am not sure if he means 40,000kms or 40,000 Miles... either way, its decent. It sounds like the car was worth 10k, cause its original, unfortunately sounds like the guy who drove it rode the clutch a lot. And piddly problems like fuel pump relay's and stuff... like how do you check that when you buy a car.. LOL
easySPEED, you got yourself a nice car, I have to admit that to you, just be a little slower in commenting on other cars, because some people can't afford 10k to buy a mint Camaro, they have to make due with what they have. They may have to buy one that needs work, then work on it slowly to bring it back to life, like davecamaro's car... I'd like to see that car finished up for sure. I respect someone who spends time on their car to make it look awesome, rather than buying a mint car and doing nothing.
Just had to get that out guys.... add your comments too... goodones though LOL I know we've hear a lot already, and one guy has to sit in the corner for a week because of his comments. Too bad

Lemme tell you a little story.
Last May 2001, I was playing that game Diablo 2 on the net. Well, after duping/cheating and all this ebay stuff I made a quick $3000 in 2-3 weeks. I couldn't believe it, I was like "screw work for $7 at the theatre, I'm playing games and makin' money!". I got a little carried away and started shopping for a camaro, cuz I knew in my mind that the only car I wanted was a camaro. I also stopped playing the game after I made my small little fortune, cuz I had enough for a camaro (should kept playing, i know somebody who is driving an M5 from diablo2)
The first camaro I saw was $3500. It was a 91 'RS with 160,000 kms. Now, to me all camaros were the same at that time, I was unknowledgable. I didn't even know they had different engines. I saw the 91, loved it, and bought it. It was a nice car. But it needed a paintjob (although paint wasn't THAT bad) and it had those ugly pink rims, and for some reason after a while i realized it was too slow for me, and instead of fixing it up, I thought I would just sell it and buy a mint car for $5000, cuz that's what most were going for.
I got rid of the RS in september. Sold it for the same price I bought it for, although I sunk like $1000 into it during the 5 months. I started looking right away. for 11 months I couldn't find anything. And as I started looking for camaros and saving my money at the same time (by now I got a waitering job, big bucks) I got VERY picky. I mean, let me put it this way, right after I sold my RS I saw a Z28 with 240,000 kms, serious rust (but it was all covered up) and it was only $1200. It ran super strong, and looked great! I was going to buy it but my dad talked me out of it.
But as I saved about $6000 for a Camaro, I for some reason went to the phase where I said to myself "why buy something and fix it up, just buy something brand new (u know what i mean) and don't bother. I also got into the phase where I wanted something SUB-100kms. So basically, when I sold my RS, at first I didn't care, I just wanted an IROC-Z, cuz they're "fast". But as I looked around, my tastes slowly went up. First I said "I'm not buying a car with any rust whatsoever". Then I said "paint better be perfect too". Then I got into "heck, I want low KMS, cuz once a camaro hits over 200,000kms it doesn't retain value that good".
I came across this blue car, it looked gorgeous, engine was mint, interior was mint, rims mint, everything was mint on it. So I bought it. Well I'll admit I had the clutch problem, and the fuel pump relay, but other than that, it's a sweet car.
The only that kinda ticks me off is when I bought it, it had NO body imperfections whatsoeveer, except maybe a covered up chip on the driver door. After going to DARKKNIGHTS I noticed alotof stuff. For instance, minor scratches (tiny tiny tiny ones) on the driver side T-ROOF which were not there before. It looks like somebody tried to use a coat hanger to get in the car, but i am 100% sure those scratches weren't there when I bought the car, which makes me start to think the guy who sold it covered alot of stuff up (black charcoal on the t-top liner? should cover up scratches). But that's little ****, and even though I do get worked up over it every time I see my car, I try to put it to the back of my head.
NBLANCHARD: My car has 76,000 KMS now. I say miles on my sig because most people are from the U.S. :P
Anyhow, that's my story of shopping for a camaro. I'm pretty happy I bought it, because I still look at the autotrader everyweek, and sofar I haven't seen anything to my tastes. Don't nobody go and get pissed off at me for post either ;-) I'm just telling you MY story and MY tastes and MY journey!

My GTA just rolled 70,000kms. 3 weeks after I bought the car, the engine blew up. Big time. I am currently on engine #3 and i've owned the car since 1998. It has done nothing but cost me money. It is, however, pretty quick. Whenever i'm pissed about it, I just roast the tires and i'm happy again
My 1992 Z28 has about 60,000kms on it but it's in pretty sad condition right now. The body, paint, and interior are show qaulity but it lacks an engine. When I lost my job and decided to go back to school full time, I had to sell most of the candy I had accumulated for it. I still have a 383 short block, Accel DFI and a 5 speed setup for it though. The Z28 will be put back together this winter. I have some big plans for it.
In my 24 short years, I have learned 1 thing about buying used cars...........the mileage on a car doesn't mean ****. It's how well the previous owners maintained and cared for said car that counts. Just take my GTA for example......it's got 70,000kms on it but it looks like it has 200,000. Now, Dave's IROC has pretty high kms but it's mint.

Oh yeah and to answer the question I bought a car in **** condition and fixed it up.. The body was straight and had mint paint which was the only good thing, the interior was trashed, the old 305TPI engine was totally shot, the tranny died shortly after. Since I got the car about three years ago I've put somewhere around $55,000-$60,000 into the car.. Plus another $2000 as soon as I get my car back from high tech racing this week. So yes my car has definatly needed a push to get it into the fast lane it sure as hell didn't come like this
Oh yeah and that mint paint job I have destroyed over the past three years with scratches and water marks burnt into the paint from the sun.. I will be getting it repainted along with a whole lot of other body related stuff (Z28 high rise spoiler, big block hood, red ghost flames, etc) this winter.

my car story!
well I bought my first car when I was 15 it was an 82 camaro Z-28
I loved the car when I bought it but as I aged and got beat by countless IROC's GTA's and of course MUSTANGS.... I couldn't take carbouration anymore... So i sold it for a good price and went MUSTANG SHOPPING!!! OH yes I was falling to the darkside!! hahaha I test drove one but didn't really like interior BOX ON WHEELS... so I offerd the guy $1500 bucks less than what he wanted of course he said no!! So on went the shopping Looked at GTA's not my style!! Nice car but just wasn't me! So then looking through the Auto Trader.. I saw an an Add for a 1992 Anniversary Z-28 (I was still looking for a mustang though at the time) but I said hey let me go see this thing... Seen it, drove it, bought it!! Knowing nothing about RPO codes etc.. all I knew it was a 305 5speed and it had some good kick... so I bought it in 1995 for 12,900 and I haven't stopped loving it!! Some paint has faded and i have added the racing stripes and countless repair's along the way! and I never stopped buying toys along the way!!
Stupid ones like Hypertech Chips!! remember from the dyno guys!! hahahahahaha!

Bought my car nearly 2 years ago. I couldn't afford a pristine convertible(10-12 k) so i happen to stumble across mine(paid 8k for it). I wanted it immediately!I loved the 90-92 dash, the leather interior and overall the car was in pretty good shape. It has high km (over 200 000) but other than 1 small rust spot its body is good. When I bought it it was running great. Soon afterwards I discovered an intake gasket leak. So last spring I tore the engine down to the block. Had the heads re furbished and put it all back together. It ran good for 3 weeks or so then this stumbling problem started. Three thousand dollars later its still stumbling(Although less), I have a love hate relationship with it like Paul (Acceld Z ) has with his. It has a long way to go to be perfect, but the nice thing about a high miliage car is that I'm not afraid to drive it.Its my baby(until something else breaks, then its just a big black piece of ****)
Great stories guys!! My car had 111,000kms on it when I bought it... I didn't even try and talk the guy down for price.. heck, $7500 e-tested and certified, non-winter driven, was a great deal. The interior is mint beside the console starting to separate
Oh well, I am getting a replacement this winter.
Oh... and rattles... I've been told its a common thing for 3rd gens.. so I just live with it.. but one of these days I am gonna go nuts and take apart the whole car and make sure EVERYTHING is tight.. LOL
Oh... I HATE BLACK!!!!!!!!!! lol.. well, its a nice colour after you wax it, for about 20 minutes.. lol

My story is REALLY, REALLY long. But I won't get into that.....loll.
I'm probably the oldest guy on the board. Heck, I could be easySPEEDcamero's old man............................................................No I couldn't...LOLL...
I use to be bigtime into drag racing. Lived at one track or another, every weekend. Some of your parents may remember my car
I was convinced to get out of it, after a near crash and burn. Well, that was many years ago.
About 3 years ago, I decided to build another strip car and almost fell over, everytime I got the prices on stuff. Guess I'd been away to long. So, I traded the rolling chassis even up for the GTA and dam glad I did.

I think I got you all beat mileage and repairs over time...
I got my car from my dad at a measly $1000....
Had 144 000 KM on it other than some winter driven issues, was in good shape compared to his other thirdgens who didn't live past 2 years...
In the past 5 years I have gone through a 2.73 ratio differential, piston o-rings, egr, oil pump, a radiator, an air deflector, a fuel pump, a fan blower for heat a/c, a heater core, a windshield, 2 sets of 215/65/R15 Good Year Eagles, 1 set of 245/50 R16 Good Year Eagles, a fan blower relay (I ended up making my own relay), various headlights, various bulbs, gas cap, gas tank, exhaust from cat back, hood struts, radiator fan motors, ignition wires, various plugs, fuel lines (engine to filter), fuel filters, fuel pump relay, from maui blue OEM to a black paintjob, to a blue paintjob...
Latest tires are BFG G-Force KDWS on the 16x8 IROC-Z rims and BFG Winter Slaloms on the 15x7 American Racing rims I own...
I'm now at 291000 km and this car runs stronger than it ever has as proven by the latest dyno.. This car from the engine to the tranny to the rear wheels (ignoring the body) is in great shape...
I put in 4 L of oil at an oil change, I get 3.9 L back (some of it stays in the block after all...).. It doesn't burn oil, not a shred of smoke at WOT... Emissions far below the standard, I can pass CA emissions, I can pass anything Ontario has... Hell if the cat isn't fired up, it spits out water from the exhaust on WOT!
This car puts out puts out 255 ft/lbs at the rear wheel (compared to 255ft/lb at the flywheel when new). It does 28 mpg or 530 km (highway) with like 4-5 L to spare to find a gas station on 1 tank (12.5 gallon/50 L). It has a top speed of 210 km/h or 130 mph...
I've put in probably a good $10 k in it over the last 5 years... it has taken care of me, it has taken me to its birth place (Van Nuys Plant in Cali), it has taken me from coast to coast, I've covered a continent and then some in this car... in gratitude I fixed it up last summer to something better than it was when it was new...
I hope your cars can and will last you like mine has

Thanx tananger11, if you didn't already know that is the GM headquarters in Oshawa. I believe some of our Ontario members might even work at that building. Its clearly visible from the 401.I wish the camera I used had a wider angle lens in order to get the big GM logo in that particular angle. I copied the idea from a pic I seen on another website of an Iroc outside of the American HQ.It would make a great shot if we could get a bunch of the Ontario members with their cars together for a pic in front of this building. This is also the site of a big car show held at the end of August.Over a thousand cars there last year.

Four years ago, I bought mine for $650, just to have fun in for a summer or two.
Since then I have built a 355 and installed a 700R4. I have seen 4 wheel air more than once, lost a wheel.... caught it on fire, and had a number of encounters with the OPP.
My friends all started making payments on "practical" cars and have spent infinite amounts of money paying other people to fix them. They all want thirdgens now that they have seen where my $650 got me.

PS: That's a wicked great pic zedder!

Bought mine last summer.
It was in fairly good shape... straight chassis and a strong 350 cid...
The interior was kinda trashed... the front seats are not the greatest hence why I have seat covers. The rear seats are in very good condition. At the time I bought it all I saw was a nice looking 3rd gen IROC. But as time went by I noticed different things...
First was the front ball joints... both were shot and I knew that up front.
Next was the interior... the headliner was completely trashed...replaced that with a ABS one... very nice fit.
Next up was a paint job... I knew that the paint on the car was bad when I bought it... looked like a rush job to me just to get it sold... so I changed her from Maui Blue to Artic White... she is suppose to be Maui Blue but I love white... maybe years down the road I will change her back to her original color...but that will be many years down the road.
Next thing was the radiator.... rad was leaking so I pulled it and got it re-cored.
The latest thing that I have noticed is that the drivers side rear axle is somewhat bent... not enough to hurt anything or feel anything but it's still bent....over the next few years I will be looking at getting a replacement rear end... seeing that my posi rear is not the best (most likely after years of abuse) this would be a good upgrade.
If I were looking for a 3rd Gen F-Body today I would know soooo much more and would most likely turn down 99% of the ones for sale, if I saw my car for sale in the condition she was in when I bought it a year ago I would not pay $5500 for her and probably wouldn't buy it.
Anyway, it is extremely hard to find a prestine flawless third gen F-Body these days and in years to come the same will be said for the 4th Gens (although luckily for the 4th Gens most young guys are going for imports which leaves the F-Bodies to older guys with more money). For the most part these cars are/were driven hard...extremely hard. Why? Because they can..
And the fact that the majority of owners are usually between 18-25 and we all know what we were like when you were that age... hell if I had a powerful IROC at my disposal when I was 18 I would have beat on it too.....and being younger you generally don't have the cash to keep the car running properly.
I know that there are really responsible 18-25 year olds and there are really irresponsible older guys.
All luck of the draw I suppose but there definitely things to look for....

I bought my car in great shape in 1997. MINT MINT MINT(here we go again, where have I heard this before). Seriously the car was immaculate, but lets be a little realistic. it had its fair share of hood chips minor scratches around the car but hey...define mint(please refrain from any smart a$$ references from a dictionary, you know who you are. I'm already fed up with what's been going on the board over a car's condition) Anyways.....over the last 5 years this is where my money has gone and this is no b/s. 99% to upgrades on engine, interior and stereo. 1% to repair. A windshield. Not bad for $7250 investment compared to others or in this case one, who talks too much. My point I'm getting to is this. And please listen because like I said before I'm tired of this and want this to end. I'm so fed up that I would like the moderators to step in and have this subject come to an end once and for all. Also a pm from the moderators to the source or cause of all this about rules, ethics and a little history of the board and its members wouldn't hurt. This has not been a happy place for the last 2 weeks and g*d knows if it doesn't end now we might have problems on August 10 if certain people decide to show up. WE all know I'm make a good on this. Back to my point and here it is...
a car is mint not in the opinion of the driver/owner but others who view the car. If you have a car that’s mint and praise it no one is going to listen or care. You want respect for your car, it has to be earned. Now it's hard to earn respect for a MINT car when it was purchased MINT. But over time if you work hard to keep and maintain its form while in your possession then people will start to recognized your MINT possession. easySPEED I say this to you as a ............... fellow thirdgen friend. You waltzed onto this board bragged that you spent $10 000 on a mint car and expected everyone to praise you and like you. Since you've bought the car you experienced not minor but major problems. Things that should have been caught by a good mechanic and not go wrong with a mint car. Lets be honest hear, go back to your posts and read. You know I'm right. There has been 2 (I think) new members to this board over the past week and not a single one stated what condition their car was in or how much they paid. Just a hi, my name is..., and glad to be a part of the group. The first thing you did was tell them you might have checked their car out already, what was wrong with it, why you didn't buy it and how much they might have paid. This is not the right way to go about welcoming new members yet alone making friends. One more thing. easySPEED, your the new kid on the block(remember them
), be careful what you type until people are comfortable with you, your jokes, attitude and personality.
Anyways I'm done and I hope that this topic is too. Peace out to everyone and please, please, please........stop. I want cruzer back (don't know why, just kidding) and have this Ontario board back to the way it was a few weeks ago.
P.S I get wait till August 10 because I'm gonna fry you turkeys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HA HA HA HA hope to see you all there

Guys go easy on the comments! Don't make me bring out the sharks with lasers on their heads! mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... ha........ha ha...................ha!
Anyways, we all have little tidbits about our cars we'd like to share and hopefully keep others from making the same mistake...
It'd be kinda weird at a thirdgen meeting and all showing up with identically scarred knuckles...
Guy 1
"I see you did headers... "
Guy 2
"How'd ya tell...??"
Guy 1
"Scarred knuckles..."
Instant friendship...
Guy 3 arrives...
"Heya guys!"
Guy 1 & 2 walk off whispering
"Don't talk to him.. he got pansy hands..."

i would like to think, that anyone elses opinion, especially bad, i tend to forget cuase im the proud one who not only cleans and drives, but also bleed for the car. So the next time someone comes up and says, hey whats that, say what the **** do you think it is. Its my car and i know every thing about it, So you didn't find anything. hehehhehe ill turn my anger button off. I hang out with 10 second fourth gen cars. Two of whooom somebody may jnow here. There at St thomas all the time. Blue 97SS 10.6 constant, 2000SS red t-tops very low tens almost nines. But i look at it the same way. My car will never go that fast ina 1/4 but ill do circles on them on a real track.
I like handling and power. Thats my prefernce, btu a fast car is a fast car. NIce is good too.

But seriously, I don't. lol
Hey guys.. I didn't start this thread to amplify the problems... I just wanted everyone to get background on eachothers cars. I forget how I was when I came to the board... I hope I wasn't bragging my car was mint, cause it wasn't
But it is now.. LOL.. NOT!!! When it comes to my own car, I am VERY VERY critical... I probably would f ind faults in a brand new car, just how I am.
And yes.. easySpeed did come here asking our opinion on the car.... and yes easySpeed did sound like he was on a high horse... BUT!!!! He just got a new toy.. remember christmas morning guys? You get a new toy, what do you do? brag
I am sure easySpeed will finish his humble pie soon
hehe... and I would like to meet this easySpeed guy, but he doesn't like to drive his car
hehe psst, neither did I when I got my GTA

I am paranoid about my car. seriously though.... When I bought it, it looked brand new to me. Now a couple of weeks later I notice little things that an ordinary person wouldn't notice or care about, but they BUG ME BIGTIME!!!
I mean, i look at my side ground effects, and I see these black marks that at first scared me on my ground effects. Then I noticed it's just tar/rubber or something. It scratches off. I also see these tiny chips here and there on the hood.
What also bugs me is the streaks won't come off my windows, I've tried everything. It's like my glass is uncleanable!!!! I rub it, dry it, use windex, use alcohol, use clothes, rags, everything, and the second I come back to my car i see these streaky windows. What gives!
I also parked my car at yorkdale the other day, and when I came back, a chunk off my side quarter panel was missing. well, not really a chunk, a little mark about 3 mm in size where I can tell somebody opened their door onto my car and the piece of paint fell off! I was so ticked off!!! But what can I do! I gotta drive my car to work, cuz I wouldn't take the bus.
BTW, I'm just curious. Right after waxing, IF I lean on the car I see a big mark in the wax. Does that mean I used too much wax? I always have to keep polishing it to keep it clean. It's as if there's a layer of jelly on my car, and if I put my finger on it, I smudge it!

Hey... I use the window cleaner from crappy tire, it comes in an aerosol can.. works great. I use terry cloths to wipe them off too. Use one sid to work the cleaner in, then the other side to remove any residue

**WHEW**
My story is one I can keep short and sweet, or at least try to...
I've always loved the look of the ThirdGen's, even when I was real young (always were the matchbox cars' I'd buy..lol...), and figured since my Corsica had seen better days, I'd start checking into things. Well, about 3 days after registering here, I saw a port on the Ontario board from "Oldbird" (Bill) offering up his '87 2.8 for a tidy sum of around $1500 cert/ e-tested....since I'm commuting to college and back daily, I wanted a small engine, something I could work with on a budget...I called him up, and went down that next weekend....fell in love with the car, told him I'd have the money in a week....and it was done. =) I still remember when I first went and got the shiney new plates...sigh...
Of course, there's plenty of imperfections on a car that sold for so little...but I've yet to have anything major go wrong. Some exhaust work, a tune-up here and there, and the car has been pretty maintinence free. Of course, the lack of power is starting to get to me, and at least a 305 swap seems to be the only option...lol....but we'll wait and see.

Hey, thx...I think the light blue/dark grey stripes were the one thing about the car that I didn't care for when I got it....the blue was just TOO light, and it was starting to peel off in spots...so off it came.

Peace dude... you bought a 3rd Gen and yer a proud owner...
Just remember... it's only a car... I know that this is hard to believe but there are more important things to care about. Friends, family, are all infinitely more important..
Anyway... you have a 10 year old car that was made to haul ***....and it probably was abused at sometime...
.. don't sweat the small stuff like dings and scratches... that **** will drive you insane! (Trust me I know). Worry more about the drive train, brakes and heaven forbid rust (am I allowed to say heaven in here..hehe cuz ya know that *** lives there..

Hey, I got respect for EasySPEED, yer what, 19? I remember my car when I was 19. I always saved when I was younger, I probably should have saved more, but even though you want to save for a car, you still gotta have fun in life. But anyways, I bought a MINT '84 Z-28. It was only about 7 years old at the time and was awsome! - TOO ME! But that is what counted. I didn't give a rats *** what anyone thought of it, I loved it and thats all that mattered. And thats all that still matters. Your car is your car, and your proud of it. Hey, you should be man, thats a rare thing, someone taking pride in their car and loving it. Not everyone takes car of their car, just look around you on any road.
But this is "computer chat", not in person. People can't hear your voice to hear your tone, or see your face to see your expression, so things you type could be taken the wrong way you meant them to be taken. I personally don't take anything anyone says on this to heart, but in case people on here do, you have to be more, .......I don't know the word, maybe, "checked over" in your messages, so not to offend anyone. Like I said, nothing bothers me, it's just words on a computer screen, and at times in the past, most recently, I've been very amused at some of the posts and "locking of posts" due to imature tempers, but this is a board to create friends in a common interest, the love of a specific automobile, f-bodies, the kind most of us own. If someone on here is intentionally, or unintentionally, egging on, don't take the bait, leave it and go on to another post. Simple. And we're all still happy friends.
