Guess what I did?

Yup! I went and knocked her up! I'm gunna be a DAD!!!

We're pretty happy about it though. It's just going to be a lot different around here. Who here has kids and still is able to mod and maintain the Thirdgen?

Congratulations.... and don't listen to those guys. Kids love thirdgens!

I think all of us wanted to cry when our dad's told us that they sold their chevelle's and camaro's for like $50 to get station wagons.... don't do this to your kid.

Your children are 32 and 35 but your profile indicates that you were born in 1981. Are you sure they're your children.

Congrats mate Yes, do NOT I repeat do NOT sell your car because of things that may happen with the kid. I missed out on a '79 Z28 and a '58 Impala because of my little brother. See, 2 baby seats don't fit in the back of a Z and the Impala, well...no idea why dad got rid of that. But serious...When I have lil wrench-heads runnin around, they are going to grow up knowing what an Fbody is and taking their first ride in a car, in a Trans Am
Congrats again mate, way to go

Dont listen to em man. First goes your sex life, then your boys nights out, then your car. So before it depreciates sell me then torque thrusts 2s .
hah just kidding, you fertile bastard. Probly not at the same pace but I still think youll be able to mod it.
And mark I thought you were in a college dorm? Are these kids of yours black (sure she said theyre just tanned, but cmon bud) by any chance?
Jordan- goodluck with everything and hopefully youll have enough cash for the kid and modding your ride, but always put the kid first obviously!
Mark- goodluck with those dna tests on jenny jones!

Congratulations dude.

I have two boys and they both have third gens. So the mods on my car have kind of fallen by the wayside however I do get to work on thirdgens all the time. The following is a recent list of mods performed.

May 01 Number one Son smashed his 86 camaro into a Mini Van- replace both front fenders, nose piece and hood. add side ground effects to match 87 style front facia. Do minor body work and paint entire car.

July 01 rebuild 355 engine for future transplant in Number 2 sons car.

Aug 01 swap out LG4 for 355 Number 2 son

May 02 repaint front end of number 1 sons car incident with Gard Rail on I 95 just outsid of Detroit.

June 02 Rebuild Carb on # 2 sons car

June 02 replace transmission # 2 sons car

Aug 02 change rearend in #2 sons car

Aug 02 replace clutch #1 sons car

Sept 02 remove and install used engine in # 1 sons car.

Oh yeah I canged the clutch on my car somewher during the summer but I just cant remember when.

Having Kids definetely does not take away from your ability to do Mods/repairs on Thirdgens.

Congrats dude!

I don't think babies have to spell the end of fun as we know it. We plan to have kiddies one day, but we don't plan to neglect the "babies" we have now.

I, too, grew up with woeful tales that began with "Before you kids came along..." I even bought my Camaro from a woman who fell into that same I-have-a-kid-now-so-naturally-I-have-to-get-rid-of-the-car train of thought. I won't make the same mistake. The poor thing was bawling when she handed me the keys the day I bought her "baby". Mark my words-I'll be driving that car until I'm too old and blind to get behind the wheel.

Good luck with everything. Don't stress, dude. You're the master of your own destiny. Keep the wheels and don't stop modding. You'll be glad you did!

Tracey

Or look at this as an investment opportunity...

Instead of saving for their university fund, use that money to mod the car, and have them involved from day one, learning eventually going on to become a master mechanic. Not only this, but now they'll only need scrubs, wont' have to spend 100's on Reeboks and Hillfiger junk

So not only have you saved 20g's for them not having to go to University, but you have a kick a$$ car, and a kid to fix it up for you for free!

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me

Congrats.

And yes it is possible to do the mods its just now youll have to do less. I've got 4 sons (ages 8,5,4 and 1) and I still get to do mods on the car just have to shop a little less for the mods thats all.

Your still gonna need an extra family car tho. I had to get a minivan to fit all my family in.

Yup same thing just different products. The place I work for builds plastic injection molds. Most of our molds are for TRW Seat Belt assemblies. So it is insert molding. I built a three stage progressive die about 15 years ago for Universal Engineering in London But most of my experience has been in diecast dies, plastic injection molds and specialty equipment.

Progressive dies are pretty interesting and being a tool maker is really good for thirdgen guys that want to do mods.
