Knox question.

Hey guys.
I read somewhere that gear drive timing can mess up the knox sensor (because of noise) and retard the timing.
If that is possible, is it possible that a loud ticking injector can do the same thing?
Also, today I pulled the injectors and the wing nut mechanic that put the motor in, didn't put 2 bolts in, that hold the brackets for the alt and air pump. I wonder if any vibration could do the same thing? I'm amazed it stayed together.
He also only put 5 bolts in, to hold the runner to the base. Didn't get the ones that go from the base out to the runners.
It's funny, mechanic's are suppose to fix the pubic's screw up's, not the other way around.

well you more than likely had a vacume leak. how did it idle?also what injectors did you get? does it run better now?

Yes. A noisy gear drive will screw with the "knock" sensor. As for a injector...I doubt it. And NO, for the most part a little vibration from a loose bracket shouldn't cause any probs. As for the mechanics. Usually if it wasn't there to begin with... if it isn't life threatining they leave it the way it was. Most mechanics only fix what is broken. Not solve others mistakes. Also most mechanics, if they are a good on that is, Don't diss another mechanics work. It is like a brother hood. To each there own. Do you think you have a knock sensor problem?

OH, I forgot to mention, when I pulled up on the fuel rail, it came off with all the injectors still in the base. The moron didn't lock them in with the clips. You can't imagine over the last year, how many things I've found and fixed, that I paid someone to do.
Enough ranting for now. I learned my lesson.
The car always idled poorly, since the motor went in and I'm hoping it was a vacuum leak.
I bought the Accel 24lb. injectors. Hopefully, they're not to much. I don't have them in yet. I'm waiting on gaskets, so I thought I would port and polish the plenum and clean up the runners.
I guess the reason I was thinking knock sensor is because the car has goobs of bottom end, but doesn't seem to pull hard up high. Thinking maybe the timing was being retarded.
Thanks.

Well noise technically isnt what sets it off (you can pump up subs and scream all you want ). A gear drives vibrations could definately set it off at the right rpm. Loud sensor wouldnt do it cause it is just noisy and doesnt really vibrate anything.
Any big vibration can do it but it has to be attached to the block to make it go off. So I doubt the brackets would do it.
As for the runners, I could definately see a lazy mechanic skipping some, they are quite a female dog...
Dont pay a mechanic to mess it up when you can mess it up yourself for free .
Is your gas mileage crap? mostly stock TPIs usually get pretty good mileage and a bad knock count will definately chug a lug the octane... If you know anyone who can scan it ask em too. Them go compare numbers on the tpi board and see how it is. Also, I believe it is the LT-4 knock sensor that will fit and is less sensitive to knock if you want a gear drive. They should do alright.
As for low high rpm power, how high are we talking about? The 350s dont like breathing through a stock intake made for a 305 too much...

On both dyno sessions, the car peaked out at 3600rpm.
It had a decent curve, but that's to low. It wasn't working right either time.
I know it's been running to rich, with a shaky idle. I'm hoping the injectors are the main poblem. Plus possibly a vac leak, that I never found before. Some cylinders were definitly getting more fuel then others. Some rich plugs and some lean.
Once I get it together, I'd like to get it scanned and hopefully run the numbers it should at Cayuga.

Yup definately sounds like injectors if some cylinders were rich and some lean. If that doesnt completely fix it check your tps and iac afterwards. Probly wouldnt hurt to make sure they are running smooth anyway.
