hm... (Slade!) I think I found a problem.

Maybe it wasn't the gas tank after all! It's the RAD I think!!!!!!! WOOHOO! well not woohoo but...

I got home, turned off the car, heard "air bubbles" somewhere making a noise, u know what i mean. I jump out quickly, I hear it from the front. I pop the hood, hold the sucker up, look at my rad overflow, and first of all it's above the line it's suppose to be at. Second of all air bubbles are inside.

And LASTLY, I stick my ear next to the rad cap and I hear a hissing sound.

I'm going to go buy a rad on Monday before something blows up!

Yah well, at least once everything is fixed I won't have any problems for a while.

I guess those guys who buy the high mileage cars know what they're doing. A wise man once told me "you buy a high mileage car, everything's already been fixed on it" but "you buy a low mileage car, you get a mint looking car but everything will break". AH WELL! She still drives like a beauty and looks like a beauty.

What exactly is your car doing?

Is the coolant leaking from somewhere? Is the rad rusty? Is there a broken hose? Did it overheat at all or is it running hot?

Before you rush off to buy a new rad which is going to run you a couple hundred bucks you should make sure thats what it is. If its running too hot it almost sounds more like a tstat which is around 10-15 bucks. Unless of course the rad is blocked up.. Did someone tell you its a rad?

Easy...I say go aftermarket with the rad, I am sure GM would probably like to try and charge you a mint for one. Stop by any rad place and see what they can fabricate for you. They should be able to put something together, better than stock for a reasonable price!

Hey Sinoed, are you ever going to post any of those pics you took at the Drag Day????

Whatever you get, I would suggest an aluminum core rad.

Also.. have you been topping your coolant system off with strictly water? You may have too much water in the system, causing the boiling point to be too low.

Geez - my rad is 20 years old and still going good. I had the original exhaust until last year when I put headers and a cat-back on it. Maybe your car is possessed try having it exorcised or something.

Hey EasySpeed something doesn't add up. If you have A/C then you have the HD rad which is not two core it is four. When I got my system flushed last year they (GM) said I had a 4 core + oil cooler they showed me but I didn't pay much attention just took their word for it.

Anyway, make sure you get it right you could end up with more problems that you started with ?!?!

good luck,
RP.

Ummm I hope its your rad... because I have experienced different things than that... but it could be your rad cap if it is hiss and letting air into the system.. BUT if not I have had a head gasket with a slight tear and then it starts pumpin air into the system..
But that is worst case scenario.. I hope not for you...

Start with the cheap stuff that you should replace anyway. My new rad cap solved my last cooling system problem...

Get the shop to put steel tanks on the side too, or the plastic ones will crack down the road againl.
