Aussie rear?

I have an 88 iroc 5.7
I want to know if anyone else has this special order rear end.
If so, did you have problems getting gears? I was planning to switch to 3.73 Richmond. That is not going to work.
Also if anyone has any general info on this rear... please share.

Thanks

re: australian 9 bolt diffs.

Basically what you have is a Borg Warner posi with a really odd configuration that was used in cars with discs (unless you special ordered a dana 44). I believe there were only 2 gear sets available; 2.77 and 3.27 and if you want to swap out, you need to have the three series carrier. I don't recall manufacturer (richmond??) but definitely pricey, in the 7-800 dollar range .

3.45's came only in the 305 5 speed cars. All 5.7's got either the 3.27 (like mine) or the 2.77.

I've heard they are around $600, but I don't know if that includes the kit. What type of mods do you have? You'll want enough engine for those gears.

Hey Chris. Where is Difftechnics out of? The US.?

Hey man.
Try a place called Driveline 2000. They are in Scarborough. I talked to him on the phone and he was extremelly helpful. I've heard mixed things about Hytech.

that's cool. I guess everybody just assumes I am a guy. It looks like most people on the board are.

You should be ok for those gears. I'm hoping to install a set this winter, but I haven't decided on the ratio yet. Have you tried the car at the drag strip? It would be interesting to see what the difference is.
