Question about 3 core copper/brass rad...
Sofar the only 3-core rad I can find is made of copper/brass.
The guy wants $250 for it. Best price if have found for this kind.
He says that there is no plastic on the radiator whatsoever. The entire rad is made of copper. Is this true?
My only other alternative is a 2-core aluminum since they don't make 3-core aluminum rads.
What do u guys think. I need to know ASAP because if the 3-core copper is a good choice I'll order it for tomorrow. Let me know. Thanks alot.

Have you pulled the rad from the car yet? Are you sure the plastic tank is the culprit?
If the tank is not split or broken, there is a good possibility you only need to have the gasket replaced between the tank and the core (any rad shop can do it). Even if the tank is split, it can likely be replaced for a hundred bucks or so, labor incl. as long as the rest of the rad is in good condition.
As for comparison, the two core aluminum will perform as well as the heavier, three core copper. My personal experience is using the stock rad with a single elect. fan to cool a pretty healthy 327, +.060, and over 11:1 compression....it hasn't boiled or failed yet.

May i ask why you are going to a big rad like that with a 305 which i assume is mostly stock?
My 383 propelled me to a 12.62 with a single core aluminum rad out of a 3rd gen Camaro without any overheatinbg problems at the starting line?
Also daily driven with no overheating
Just curious, not intended as a flame.

I have the stock rad in my car as well and I never have overheating problems. And I beat my car like it's a rental. Perhaps the cause of your overheating isn't the rad.

When I put my new engine in I was having major overheating problems... I upgraded to a 3 core rad and they all went away. Looking back on it I think my old rad might have been damaged... so I can't say that it is necessary to upgrade.
But my temp is cooler now than it ever has been... across the board.

when i put in my 355, i kept my stock replacement rad that i got for about 100 bucks in spring of 2001. it keeps the 355 nice and cool, no problems here. i guess what i am saying is that yes a 3-core will keep you cooler, but you may not need it. it looks like it all depends on the car. jason needed one, neither Acceld Z or myself needed to swap, and all of us have fairly heavy modded engines
Yeah. I don't want to steer anyone wrong here. I think I only needed one because my old one was damaged. Looking back on things... it wasn't cooling the 305 properly just before I did the swap.
How did that rad work out?
Just curious.....it isnt always a rad that causes an overheating problem..
Could be timing, air in the system, bad waterpump, block in the rad, faulty thermostat, bad headgasket(s) ect.....
Just curious anyhow.....my engine is fairly heavily modified as well & i run supercool......165deg on a night, 175 on a warm day
