To black or not to black...
To black or not to black...
That is the question.
What the heck am I talking about? The headlight pockets on the 3rd Gen Camaros. Currently my headlight pockets are gloss black. I like the black pockets but a couple people have mentioned that I should have got them painted in white with the body. I was at the body shop yesterday and was talking to them about getting the stone chips on the front nose piece addressed and some other little imperfections that I found and some that I accidentally created myself. So it was decided that in the spring the entire front will be repainted again...this time with a slightly different flame design.
So now I've got to figure out whether I want to keep the headlight pockets black or paint them white and go for the monochrome look. I would like to hear other opinions on this as I am on the fence about this one.

BLACK
Always liked the black headlight pockets.
Never liked them painted same as body. Makes it look like and after-market paint job, takes from the car somehow. Also makes it look like your car was you car in an accident.
STICK WITH THE FACTORY SCHEME.

you have a white iroc, keep them black, if you have a red iroc you should have them black(i shoulda did that) but those are the only 2 colours that you should have them painted balck...and i think it accents your flames alot better with the balck there...

I think the pockets look better in black. Painting them the same
colour will look like an RS.:nono: :nono: :nono: :nono: :nono: :nono: :nono: :nono: :nono:

Basically the same response as the Appearance Board.
Palric: Factory scheme...hahaha...I'm so far from factory at this point. Funny guy! But seriously, I know what you're saying.
This is what I was thinking if I did do it...

I like it with them painted the same as the body colour.. With those things white like that it gives it more of a clean showcar look. IMO and yes I know its not factory but who says you can't make something look better than factory

Personally I don't consider making your car 'look like an RS, or a Berlinetta' a bad thing... whatever looks good, looks good! And same colour looks awesome on the 3rdgens.
Make sure you keep your headlights nice and clean though, because they stand out more with the mono-colour.
You've already diverged from factory IROC in a lot of ways... nothing holding you back now

Good luck
Well like I mentioned on TFBM, have you thought about a chrome styled paint or coating? Wont quite be as nice or smooth as chrome but I have seen it on a show IROC before and it looked amazing. I think it would look even better on a car like yours that has a nice shiny white. Just another option to look into.
If your not considering that though I would definately paint them body colour. I guess Im with the extreme minority but I like them body coloured. It makes the cars appearance much more smooth. I also dont think you have to worry about people thinking its an rs or whatever. Not many RS camaros came with factory flames

I say keep em black! The white is just too much. On a light car you should have em black on a darker coloured car (like mine) they shouldnt be painted.
On another note I always thought they stopped painting the pockets black in 89 on all models there forward
And ninety1TAgta and chevypower91 what is wrong with the way the RS's look!!!!

Nothing at all. Just that IROCs were a more pricy model obviously and knock offs or imitations are frowned up by alot of people... And I was just refering to the people that did say painting it body colour would look bad/like an RS and berlinetta. go pick on them.

Thanks for the replies guys. The overwhealing response to keep them black is not a surprise. That's the way I prefer them, but given the repainting happening in the spring I though I would throw the idea out there.
I've still got a couple months to really make up my mind but the odds are I will keep the pockets black
and go with the louvered grill. The fog lights are already gone to accomodate the ram-air system.
NOW the next question is, do I go with a black grill (it will be gloss black to match the headlight pockets) or do I go with a body coloured grill?
