Setting valves

Hey guys ..This is Stiffler! Over at Sostar18's house trying to set the valves.. 2 weeks ago he busted a rocker arm. So we replaced it and set the valve's... We hand cranked it over and checked the valves and they were lose again.. So we thought it was the nuts..bought some new nuts and the same thing happens. Also we had the engine running with the valve covers off and we are noticing no oil spurting up.. whats up.. need some advice men...

If they're new pushrods, it may take some time for the oil to build up and pump thru, I know this happened when I installed new ones.

Are they self aligning rocker arms?

If so, you'll never get it right because the pushrods will just drop down on the plunger everytime you tighten it giving you a false impression. You end up overtightening it.

If so you can set them while the car is on, put on like 3-4 threads worth prior to starting then back it off till it clacks then give her a nice 1/2 turn to tighten.

As for why oil's not gushing, that's kinda odd. Take out each pushrod and run them through some varnish to see if you can clear up and build up of gunk that may have formed in them. While they are out, do the glass roll test to see if they are straight.

Mine sprayed oil as far as 2 feet...

Set them with the engine running.

Do them one at a time with this procedure:

1. Loosen until you hear "ticking"
2. Tighten until ticking stops
3. Tighten 1/4 turn more
