Maf

I hope someone can help me out. Here's how things went.
Got new Roller Rockers and Valve covers. Got the car back....cold hard start.
Took car back for other work...polished/ported plenum/runners...gears.
So while the car was there I told him to check valve lash....did that ..the car was still starting sh't from cold. Tells me it is my MAF....I had a similar problem back 3 years ago......replaced relays at that time....solved problem. I have just spent my vacation $ on the latest. How do I know for sure that i need a new MAF? I know that u cannot return them...so I do not want to buy it and it does not solve my problem. Does anyone know how much they are new and used? What should I do?
Thanks guys

MAF's are about 500 bucks. new. Ive got one here, used for 10 minutes, and like you said, i couldn't return it, so if you need one, ill send it to you for half price.

I find it hard to believe that it is your MAF causing hard cold starts... what it could be is your relays again... those are cheap. I would tryt them out again... or just swap your MAF and Fuel Pump relay, they are both the same

If the car runs ok when it's warmed up, it shouldn't be the maf.
Normally if maf or relay are bad, it would be running pretty rich (lots of black smoke) and would show a code. Definitly try the relay first though, something like $28, if that is the problem.
Good luck.

The car runs amazing after i get it started...I have to keep my foot on the gas for 2 or 3 mins....back it out of my garage(quickly) ...on the gas again for another 2 mins slowly ease off... then everything is fine.
I really want to try to reslove this before i put her away for the winter....
At the shop they did tell me that they put another MAF on the car and it ran perfectly???

Before we chalk it up to a MAF .......give me more details .....
is it a carb , FI-TBI, TPI ??? size of motor (probly a 305 .....NO)

It could be some simple things like fuel problem ,ignition ??

I found two different part numbers for v6 maf's and v8 maf's, the 305 and 350 share the same maf, the v6 had an odd part number...

Well we can always test it... its not a big deal, plugs are the same.

Could we try it? I don't know how to do it, though. Same with the relays someone said i should try switching or even replacing. This whole thing is very depressing. Like most I only have a few weeks to enjoy the car. Then the ugliness of winter sets in...

Sure, let's just arrange a meet time and we could test it out,

For Tues-Thurs I only have a window b/w 2-4 PM though.

If you want to try it today,

contact me 416 725 7587

I'm giving Mark a lift home since he's dropping off his Camaro at the shop for repainting and I'll be in Etobicoke pretty much around Weston 401.

Hey, i asked around and apparently the only Maf that will work on my car has to be from an 88or 89 5.7
I am wondering what u heard? I am sorry I was busy all day and did not see your last post to me. Well, thanks. I do not want to waste your time. I plan to ask another source Tues and i will get back to u.

Don't worry cougars don't scare me

Unless its really dark I'm in a club or bar and the lights do nothing for my vision, that and beer not helping it either...

Ok like I said, they are different part numbers. You're welcome to try it still.
