8 Years Of Storage Ta Is Out

hi i am brand new here. i live near brampton and have a 85 trans am ws6. its been sitting outside for 8 years and looks like new. i am suprised by the condition of the car. it has 130 000 klms on it with original paint.
i am hoping to put a 86 corvette engine in it with a aluminum intake and carb. the neat thing about 85 is there is no egr, no air pump, and no computer. it would be nice to find a lt1 or ls1 but i think that might be hard to find or do cheaply.
i will give a link to my pictures of the car soon on this post.

anyone here done a lt1 in a third gen?
what parts do i need to make my 350 into a 383?
should i use 400 rods or 350 rods?
just want simple instructions thanks

no i have not driven it for 8 years. its just been sitting on blocks.
its been a really long time. i have been into 4 wheelin and import streetracing for the last three years. my 93 civc si did 12.9 109 with a stock prelude engine no spray stock tire. with the spray it killed alot of low 12 cars on the street. i now want to get back into the f-body stuff.

Yeap traction can be tough. I'm thinkin of getting some 295/50/16 from BFG. $175 a piece. Not to bad for Canadian funds.

see if you can find out the overall diamiter of the tires. make sure it does not affect your gear ratio.

Actually right now the car has 245/50/16 on it w a 3:73 gear. This is my Monte SS i am talking about. They are only 26" in diameter. I need a bit more then that. for traction reasons. The tires I mention the 295's are 27" in dia. which will put my VSS back on track. Overall this help the car, traction and speed wise.

i live in the north west corner of brampton. yup it still has the carbed lg4 engine in it. my fathers vette burned in 87 so i have that 86 vette engine to build up to put in it. has aluminum heads.
have the clean ownership for the vette as well as the rear half of it for sale. thanks for the warm welcome. well i still have the 11 second civic and a mid 13 second winter civic. just missed havin a v-8 rumble. 8 years is too long to let a car like that sit.

There's an outstanding BSflag on the civics.

You are not running 12s with a stock NA civic. Please rephrase with the truth.

the sad thing is it is fairly straight forward to get a civic in the high 12's.

i bought a jap spec h22a with a msb4 lsd tranny. cost about 3000

the civic with the engine swap should weigh around 2000 pounds

thats it. you doin 13's. you have to play with it a bit to get high 12's but its a no brainer. im sorry to be the one to tell you this. things have changed alot in the last two years. i was beating mustangs, irocs, transams, ram air ss, ferraris, all summer in woodbridge. i even beat a 600 hp supercharged corvette when i used my spray three times in a row. yup it was a good summer.

Jay my buddy owns a import shop in Barrie and he has a civic hatchback that runs a 14.1 with no traction spinning all the way to third. All he done was put in a B16A motor a 3 full exhaust from the header and upgraded the computer.

Welcome to the board. Nice looking car. Just curious though, who would put a GTA badge on an original paint TA?

Welcome to the board! Jay, I have to believe him because my buddies brother has a civic with a jap spec type R engine"stock", weighs 1600 pounds and is running in the 12's. He took it up to St. Thomas this summer. Last I remember, I saw his trophy for fastest import "stock" or something like that. He won the DSM us versus them shootout too. Remember Jay, thats 180hp to the wheels of a 1600 pund car!

I agree to disagree to agree The car is not stock but that engine itself regradless unmodded can do 12's. But that civic is not stock.

As I recall dropping in a whole different engine kinda removes ANY car from the stock category...

Running a prelude engine in a civic, even if it is a stock prelude engine is like us dropping in a nice chevy big block in a f-body...

Sure we can do it with the cash flow, but isn't the great thing about our cars the fact we "build it up from stock"?

To each their own I guess...

yes 14.1 would be a common time for crx with b16. 92 up from japan there was a worm gear lsd that came in some of the trannys. i have the worm gear lsd in both my civics. makes a huge difference in traction in these little cars. no honda in north america ever came with a lsd in the tranny.

"Welcome to the board. Nice looking car. Just curious though, who would put a GTA badge on an original paint TA?"

back in 1989 when i put the gta badge on the car i was kinda young and i realy liked the gta. i also had the gold gta rims on the car. remember i have not even looked at the car in 8 years.

"Welcome aboard. I like the rims! "

the rims are from belgium and where made for a porche 911 turbo
i had them drilled for the ta. 17 x8.5 front and i think 17x9.5 in the back. i like the gta rims and i like 17 inch rims and tires so it was perfect for me. im hoping to get some weld drag light rims off a friend for dirt cheap for racing next summer

"I thought the 85-87 TA's all were two-tone as well? "

are you for real? no way they came in normal one colour. in 87 my friend had a burgandy 85 trans am.

"yeah...maybe civic should be a banned word on here too... ....let go of the **** cars.......your now a man....."

well i do love my trans am but i dont think it will ever go 250klm and be smooth as silk like my winter civic does. the 92-95 civic is just a better car. but i will never sell my trans am. i think i remember as a kid that it was cool when i would go 150klm in my trans am. mmmm times change

dont worry i have alot of respect for guys with third gen f-bodys. i love myn and will have it till im old and grey. imports are just for kicks but the f-body is for life.

Sorry, not really up on my TA history. Always been more into the Camaro's. Usually most of the TA's you see are 2 tone, with GTA's being solid. I know Kevin87TA has a solid black one. Should have thought of that first

Well i can see where there coming from.
A guy i work with, just sold his ex Mini racer.
It was completely gutted. Weighed in at 1400lbs and dynoed at 160hp and is not even close to the times your bragging about.
It just isn't that simple to get a civic that quick. And if you were the quickest in T.O. this summer, then we have a fully loaded, all seats, and bicycle racked civic up here that runs mid 11's. And he needs alot more than a stock Prelude engine to do that.

remember what a car can do at the track and what a car does on the street is too different things. there are no foot wide bald drag slicks on the street. plus its not a drag car it has licience plates and is driven every day. i raced a 500 hp civic on the street and was on his bumper at the end of the 1320. if you cant get the power down on the street then what do you got? nothin.
the street is all about gettin your power down with a street tire. if our doin low 11's like the guy i raced with a foot wide bald drag slick at a sticky drag track your not gonna get times like that on the street. if you get high 11's with a bald drag tire and i get high 11's on a street tire who is gonna win on the street? somethin to think about.

ya ill meet up i dont mind. what do you mean i stirred things up here?

the street is all about gettin your power down with a street tire. if our doin low 11's like the guy i raced with a foot wide bald drag slick at a sticky drag track your not gonna get times like that on the street. if you get high 11's with a bald drag tire and i get high 11's on a street tire who is gonna win on the street? somethin to think about.

ya ill meet up i dont mind. what do you mean i stirred things up here?
Wow, the street racing rules are very well laid out where you live.

Here's my fav.....

"It's not how you stand by your car, it's how you drive your car" Or something.

I would know just how much they race around here.. I can only hear them racing late at night by my place lol...

The fun part is around here A LOT of civics are randomly pulled over (the "special" ones) and cops have a field day rummaging through them. As I recall some new by-laws are in effect in the peel region in response to the street racing deaths this year...

I meant he stirred up everyone on the street racing board. Dont worry guys I will volunteer myself and Slade to go for a ride in this civic. Sounds like it might be fun
