Paul Hughes BS Fix - Thread
Just a little thread to remind us that Paul Hughes is going down to check out that m@d tyte CiViC owned by another member on here, validate it's speed and such, and clear the BS...of course, I'm sure "Bad news, I had it flown to Florida" may be imminent, but at the same time I so WANT it to be true....Paul, you da man here....
What are we exactly confirming here? My long time family friends have three sons. The oldest my best friend through out highschool. The youngest son has a mid 90's civic. Completelty gutted. Glass is now something else in it's place that weighs less. No heater. No power accessories. Fiberglass hood. Custom computer chip by the best guy in Richmondhill(apparently). Type "R" engine from Japan. Engine itself is stock. NOT CAR, the engine. The tranny is the original from the civic. Air intake. I've seen the car. My other friends have gone to cayuga/St.Thomas to watch. Trophies from events proving his time. Won the US vs Them DSM shootout. Wieghs 1800pds(i believe) track time 12.8 @ over 100mph. I've seen pictures, trophies, and the car go by me on the side street by our house. I didn't stand a chance in my T/A. If I had time, I would go get the website(I think there is). There's something about his car on the net. Not current but awhile back had the fastest running stock engine honda. Again, I hope that I have enough credibility and your trust to help you guys believe that yes these cars can unfortunatly go guick but agree to say that it is not stock. If were calling bs on this new guy than I'm in. As soon as Paul reports we'll believe.
Oh ya, his car isn't streetable anymore. Gets to the track by trailer.

Can't wait, course I could drop a new Vette motor in my car and call it stock too, if I wanted to be a sneak about it.
I dont think its bs at all... I mean it could be, but a civic with prelude engine could do low 13s high 12s from what Ive read. Its not an uncommon swap among the civic owners who actually want to go fast and its a pretty failsafe mod. They also use crv (the honda suv) engines. I think preludes can do 14s, so why wouldnt the same engine in a car thats alot lighter/smaller do 13s or 12s? Its obviously not stock, but it goes, so who cares?

We'll see. And Greg when you start to meet some of the heavy tuners in Ottawa next season. Ask them if it's that easy to drop in a Prelude engines and run 12's. You'd get laughed at. There's a guy in Ottawa with a CRV 6 cylinder(i think) in a civic and he runs only mid 13's and those came with like 240hp.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go stick it to some of those arrogant domestic owners in Thero/Street who simply fail to believe an import can take a domestic...but the proof is in the pigeon-****, or something.

I'm sorry, did someone just say that it was cheaper to get a civic into the 12s than an f-body? Since when is importing an engine/tranny from another continent and swapping it into a fwd car considered cheap? Plus that bottle would need refilled since you'd be on it from the moment you dropped the clutch.
A 12 second civic is definitely possible, there's no debate there. It also wouldn't be cheap by any stretch of the imagination. The idea of a 12 second winter beater is laughable at best.
Has anyone else ever seen that episode of Horsepower TV (or something like it) where they had like half of a show devoted to fwds at the track? Yep, all of these highly modded (Nitrous, turbos, supers, totally gutted, etc...) hatchbacks put up scary times. High tens, low tens, maybe even a high nine. Even my brother actually turned to me and said hey, maybe I was wrong about the ***** thing after all. It was then, at the end of the segment, that the host turned and said "oh and by the way, this is an eigth mile track, not the quarter that we're used to". Imagine the roar of laughter...
I wish I had taped that episode, it was priceless. So close, no matter how far...
