Heads.....

I've been trying to figure out a way around this. I have a 68 327 that I rebuilt, cost me $4000++ CDN. I am going to fuel inject it ( to be different ) I will be putting it my 92 RS. I am going to do this for sure, whether I use the TBI setup or go to a Miniram or Stealthram setup. The heads on the engine are double hump 291 casting number heads, they have no accessory bolt holes in the ends. This is my problem, I have put $1600 in to these heads and cause they have no holes I now need new heads. Is it possible to have a machine shop tap the holes into the heads for the accessories or am I just S.O.L

Car: 90 IROC 5.7 hardtop
Engine: L98
Transmission: T5 swap
Axle/Gears: Yup -- they still work
The way I see it... get a shop to tap new holes and use the heads.

I'd install the engine with your TBI and iron out the bugs created by the swap. After you figure these out/get experience then swap to stealth or mini ram.

my .02 cents worth,
RP.

I hope so

Now I hope that the shop will tap the holes for me. Thanks for the input.

You can buy brackets to mount the alt to one of the exhaust/header bolts, instead of the head like stock. Look up Brant Performance in Brantford and they can sell you one.

As for the TBI, why would you put a half-a$$ed induction system on a motor you spent that much coin on. The stock TBI is ok for stock motors, but doesn't cut the mustard for performance applications. Don't waste your time with it. Either swap to carb or spend the extra to get a decent FI setup on there.

In the future

In the future I will be changing over to a Miniram or Stealthram, just need to save the money. But for now like Palric said I'll just use TBI on the 327, I'll figure out what combination works best for me and learn as I go along.

Apparently, A TBI unit will flow enough CFM for 400HP. The nice thing is they're real easy to work with. My $.02.
