It needs a ground up restoration - or maybe just should be ground up - forget the restoration.

Tell us how you REALLY feel, Dave.

I have a similar car. There are about a million things wrong with mine. The way that I rationalize it, is by concentrating on one problem at a time.
For example, maybe concentrate on your "**** sucking oil pan." The correct (non-**** sucking version) can be bought in perfect shape used, for about $40. Easy to replace, depending on your tranny.

Might seem like a lot of money, but if you spend it gradually, you can consider it payment on a "new" car. You're basically spending a few hundred a month, and at the end, your Camaro will be an entirely new car!

I'm sure your glorious reviews of said POS aren't doing anything for potential buyers.

Also if the oil pan is a big deal I would be happy to give you free of charge a "non **** sucking" version. But we all know that instalation is the big deal. You pretty much have to pull the engine.

Some times you just have to cut your losses like Hughes... wait until you are "ready" for a thirdgen.

hahah johnyIROC, your right owning a 3rd gen right now is not what I need on my hands, but I bought one, what can yah do now.. its to late to do anything now.

As for the POS, im just pissed off, casue the guy who made my engine made so many mistakes, like putting on the wrong oil pan, so ive been driving around for 4 months with the wrong oil pan, how great is that, as for "potential buyers" im not really worried, ive put over 6 grand into this car, I bought it for $1200, so if I was me, I would of bought my car NOW haha when it had everything fixed in it, these little fixs that I need now like the replacing of the oil pan (which will be a free charge) but its the hassle of taking my car from one part of the city to the other when im trying to get it all fixed up (mechanically wise speaking) and so far so good, everything is doing good except for that crappy oil pan... and the fact that I have to deal with that guy who built my engine... such a hassle arg..

What's the problem with the oil pan? Is it scraping the K-member? Or is the plug inaccessible?

If he's got a 700R4, all he has to do is remove the flexplate cover, and slip the pan out toward the back, isn't it?

With my T-5 tho, you're right, the engine did need to be pulled.

Never thought of that... I assumed the crank counter weights and oil pickup would catch on the pan.

I've pulled the pan off my 85 Z28 with the 700R4, and you need to lift to motor to get it out. You don't need to pull the motor all the way out, it needs to come up by 3-4 inches. Still, for all the work it is to get it up 3-4 inches, pulling the motor isn't much more work.
