I think it is called "wonder bar" because we all wonder why the hell didn't GM put this thing on all f-bods?
It stiffens the area under the powersteering box to keep it from ripping itself from the frame. It also gives the PS pump more turning power because of this. You should get a little bit faster turning.

I got mine from Global West. Spohn makes one now too.
Skip the factory one and get aftermarket. The factory one is pretty flimsy compared to the GW bar. I got mine for $46/US shipped.

I have never even herd of one untill now.
Here's an example of how the wonderbar would help...
You're coming down hill a bit fast and need to make say a right turn. You hit the brakes and start the turn but the road is a bit wet from the rain, your passenger side tire locks up and slides while the drivers side doesn't and you are forced to take the turn wide due to the slide of your passenger side.
With the wonderbar in place the steereing is reinforced a bit more preventing excess flex, causing the passenger side tire to plant itself more preventing the lockup and allow you to take that turn without a second thought to it.
Now if your suspension is old and struts and springs weak, a wonderbar won't make that much difference as its part of the big picture.

Why make a BIG issue of a item that GM installed on one car the IROC as a basic performace item to support the steering box and
steering, nothing else. Why it was only a cost saving by GM not to install it on other models. GM called it ( front steering support) and not AKA Wonder Bar.

A better example on why this part is needed:
Your thirdgen has big 245/16/50 or bigger sticky tires and a stiff suspension. Low speed turning, like in a parking lot and turning slowly at full lock will cause the steering pump to make the steering box try to rip itself from the frame. If this happens, it needs to be welded back in place. The faster the car is going, the less the box tries to do this.

Where did you get the GW bar from? GW's website shows no distributors in my area (NC) and I can't find them at the usual online places (Jegs, Summit, etc.)
