Ok so I'm putting the engine together today and I'm almost done.. then I find out that the one head was plained on an angle and the intake will not seal . and that I need new heads. (don't want to put any nore money into the 882 heads) now I don't want to spend alot of money. so what is a good head to go with I've heard that 305 HO heads are good I would like to have smothing with a 1.94-2.02 intake valve. must have acc bolt holes. I need help

I'm gonna have to vote against the 305 heads. If I had to start over with my engine i'd be buying a set of Vortecs and the SDP base manifold.

I have a set of port matched 882's here, and in a couple weeks I'll have a set of double humps from the old 302's available.

i agree with what was said here. I did this swap and am nothing but happy with it. I did the cam and roller rockers, spring upgrade and the whole 9 but just the heads and base is worth 40-50 hp

Talk to F-BIRD'88 if you want to hang on to the 305 heads. He's been able to port them so that they will surpass stock Vortec heads on a flowbench. Just something to think about, considering the 305 heads are dirt cheap.

I thought about those as well. the price is right but in my case, I was told they weren't a whole lot better then what I had already with some porting and what not(stock tpi 350 heads)I'm no mechanic though and the source i was getting my info from is and raced tpi cars!!! He also told me you can't mod beyond the stock computer calibration and get it right. I seen build ups with those heads and the numbers were impressive. I showed the mechanic and he shrugged it off trying to convince me the stock heads were capable of the same.I have a whole article on what to look for when selecting heads for tpi engines. if you would like i can scan it and email it to you(GMHTP)

How much of an angle was created by the milling of the head(s)?

The point is- you may not have to start over. If you can line the bolt holes up- you can make it work (or you could machine the intake appropriately as well). The intake manifold really does not carry any real load- use a normal intake gasket and some high-temp RTV to seal everything and you should be A-OK. Unless you try to lift engine by the intake and thus break the seal- some extra spacing is not the end of the world.

I went 13.7@101 with ported 305 heads on a pretty mild 355 with 222@050 .467" cam in my old 85 Z28. 305 heads aren't that bad, if you can get the work done cheaply on them.

Out of the box maybe, but fact is the old style Bowtie heads have way more potential then Vortech's do.

If you want to port your 882's right out, they can do pretty good.
A guy around here was running 13.3 with ported 882's in a POS camaro.
