Garage Space

Does anyone know anywhere in Toronto where I can rent space to work on my car or any clubs which have garage space available for their members.

I already checked Centennial Car Club - they have no space for new members and the cars have to be pre 65 or something.

Thanx

On an as needed basis where I could do whatever had to be done on the car - like even just get it on stands to check stuff over before/after a track day. Best solution would be some kind of club which has facilities available for use by it's members. Used to be that some shops would rent space but I don't see that anymore. There's a club in Kitchener which has it's own shop. The only one I've found in Toronto is Centennial but they're full and my car is not old enough anyway. Might look into renting one of those public storage garages maybe just for the summer unless they have rules against working on cars.

George,
Why don't we buy an industrial unit .... split the cost.
Lotsa room for stuff to do.

I can also buy that Yenko I had my eye on and have a place to store it. Lemme know.

Ron

Ron - that's a good idea - would probably work out OK - my business has been slow this year so far though - o/wise I'd consider it. Do you know approximately what it would cost to buy space like that.

No idea on the cost George.
I enquired in Downsview a couple of years ago near Allen & Sheppard and the price was reasonable but the taxes were murder.

There used to be quite a number of these "pay by the hour" do-it-yourself shops around. However, Toronto and north of TO I would have no clue about- but there were (and recently) ones I'd seen in Hamilton, Mississauga, Brampton, Rexdale, and Oshawa. Most of the places I have been in were carrying on another primary business (usually bodywork) and thus didn't put the "do it yourself" business on any kind of priority- and one place I was in was getting pretty picky about what you could do (i.e. nothing that would stir up dust- which was almost impossible based on the amount of it all over the place- otherwise their fresh paintjobs would get dirty).

If you find a car club with such a "clubhouse" let me know- people have talked here/there in the past about getting a bunch of guys together and renting an industrial unit for this purpose- but usually it all ended with people not willing to commit any real money up front (no one wants to be on the hook for the lease-term without the cash from everyone else in hand, obviously)- or the unit that a few people have gotten has been way way way out in the sticks to lower costs- but driving north of Barrie to work on my cars is not something I'd ever consider.

Ya George, something like that but not orange, attracts too many people.

Here is my idea for building an ultimate garage.... in lieu of renting/buying an industrial unit with you of course:

Eric, if you see anything let me know too, I also reside in Toronto.

Later, Ron

I could probably afford the first ultimate garage in those pictures there Ron but I'd have to live in the attic of the said garage.

Some people were kinda "sticking it to him"- the ultimate garage guy:

-although I have to admire his fortitude and not getting uppity about it like alot of people would...

-And you guys could afford an attic? I'm jealous...

Keep me in the loop on this. I too would be interested in space so will keep my eyes open for one. Be great to get something with some nice bays or even a small warehouse type thing with a number of loading docks. Just out of the city would be much cheaper.

For Do it Yourself garages, Rent a Bay in Hamilton is pretty good. They are very busy there.
