350 Heads

I have a 69 corvette 355 engine carbed, I want to know if I can just use heads from a 350 TPI engine to bolt on the intake so I can just keep my original setup in the GTA.
Is this possible or will this even work without blowing the engine?
Thanks

Do you want to use the TPI on the older block or use the heads on the older block and use carb?

Either way both are possible. All you have to is elongate the 2 middle holes on each side of either intake. The 4 middle intake holes on 86 and older SBC heads while its horizontal on 87 and newer.

TPI heads/carb intake - elongate holes for horizontal bolt
carb intake/TPI heads - elongate holes for diagonal bolt

I thought it would be easy just to use heads from a 350 TPI engine on the 355 and just bolt on the intake, I thought the holes would match, I guess not.
Maby the best bet is to look for a whole other engine 350 from 87 or newer vin 8.
It seems like using the 355 for TPI is doable although sounds like I might run into maby problems trying to adjust it to work.

its actually very easy..If youre afraid of elongating holes. You can look for an 85 or 86 intake base and everything should bolt right in.A machines shop will probably charge you $40 to elongate the holes to match

If you are starting a rebuild from scratch the 350TPI heads might be a better head. But the combustion chambers are 64-67 which is probably different than the older style(norm is 76cc).if you use the TPI head with the current piston your compression might waaay to high..Valves might even hit the pistons.

If the current motor is running,Ill just get the intake elongated or get the 85 TPI intake base

Useing 350TPI heads on a "'69 corvette 350" will not cause the valves to hit the pistons or the compression ratio to be too high.

There were two 350's available in the corvette in 1969
one is a 10:1 compression 300hp version. the other is the L-46 11:1 compression 350hp 350.

Both used high performance 64cc heads. The chamber size is the same on a TPI head (64cc). So the compression ratio will be the same. In fact if you replace the origional factory shim style (.015") head gasket with a typical felpro replacement (.039") the compression ratio will be slightly lower.

reguardless the only fitment problem is the center bolt angle on the intake manifold.

If you really do have a 1969 corvette 350 it would be desireable to keep the origional heads on the motor and just modify the bolt holes on the TPI intake to fit.

What is the casting number on the top of the cylinder heads?
(remove the valve cover to see). On the "corvette motor"

The casting on the block is 3970010, thats all I got for now.
Havent had a chance to look under the cylinder heads yet.

The casting numbers for the heads are going to be under the valvecover area.

The heads you have on are probably a 64 cc head coming from that era, so the change to a fuel injected tpi head wont really affect your compression much.

The headflow though, that may be an issue. Depending on what head you have currently, you may lose potential HP if you swap over.

Just get the correct intake modified.

010 blocks were produced up to 1980. Mostly for trucks. Get the casting numbers off the head before you assume you have a 1960's motor or a "Corvette motor" . It's more likely to be a low compression smog motor from the mid 70's. In that case bolting on 64 cc 350 TPI heads would be a step up.
