Replacing Quarters?

Hey guys,

Some questions on bodywork...

My inner rear wheelwell lips where the outer and inner parts come together have started to swell a bit since last paint about 6 years ago. I also have some corrosion at the joint between the rear inner fender well and the floor pan (I believe) come together. This is visible on the lower portion of the flat surface right in behind the rear wheels, outside of the subframe rails.

I figure if it is to be corrected properly and once only I'll have to replace the quarters and inner rear wheel wells completely.

Rest of the car is totally solid.

Any advice here?

1) Where is the best place for body parts (GM) I require?
2) Can I get good quality outer quarter wheel openings only, so as to not have to replace the whole quarters?

Thanks

Just replace the rusted areas with new metal. Don't replace the whole 1/4's unless they are totally shot. Doesn't sound like they are. If you replace the whole pannel there can be allignment issues, an inexpenced welder which leads to bondo and rust later ect. Avoid it if you can.

The inner wheel wells can have the rotted areas cut out and new sheet metal put in. Once the rocker guard or what ever that crap is called is put back, you can't tell unless it's a butcher job.

replacing the 1/4 is a big job, replacing the inner well is a huge job!

i got one all apart if there is any angles you would like to see of the area to help you out just let me know.

but it would be far cheaper to replace only what you need to and not the hole thing

anyplace in Canada will sell you aftermarket repops. all made by the same place called Cross Canada. parts source C,T, or any parts shop can all get it. GM may have them but for huge$$$$. you might be able to find different makers in the U.S.

i found this out when i was shopping for new floor pans. i ended up buying out of the U.S.

not sure you can get just around the wheel. i have never seen 1/4 that were not full or at least half size. but it would be better to have a full one anyways. that way you would keep the weld up higher (keeping the total distance to weld shorter becasue your only going from door window to hatch window and not the hole length of the 1/4. )

Trigger,

That's what I figured for the quarters, all or nothing. It would be mighty hard to fab up the opening as well since our cars have that small rolled lip all along the opening.

Could you take some shots from the inside of both sides looking toward the rear wheel arches? Maybe from the front, top, and rear to get a good perspective of what all the parts are. It sure is easy to see everthing on a stripped car.

Did you get that thing complete bead or sand blasted?
How much was that worth?
Did you shoot primer on it immediately afterwards?

I think I'll do that in a few years. Strip the whole car and make it 110%.

Thanks.
