how to hide front plate???
how to hide front plate???
Well the project car is comming along pretty good now and just when I thought we were ready to put it together e test and what not.
Johny comes up with another design change
.!
He is going to make the front licence plate hide when you park the car and turn off the key.
Anyone ever done this on the front of a camaro??? Any pics, Any advice any sketches, any ideas all welcome.
Thanks
Ric

idea....in the white 3rd gen in your sig, if thats where its going to be why not have a flap that comes down over top.....meaning have the plate mounted maybe a cm deeper than what it sits and have a panel that drops down over top when parked.... or...if you are really good just have it have where it sits (where its mounted again on the white camaro 3rd gen) split apart open the plate will come back a little bit, and close infront of the plate...kinda like a retracting unit. might be difficult but could be cool...
Yeah it goes on the white car in sig but the white car is red now. And the grill insert is an IROC style insert not the RS one.
The Idea is to have the plate retract and hide away someplace like maybe in the nose cone area. So when the key is off the plate and any brackets etc. are hidden and the front of the car will look the way it was intended to look when they designed it.
Here is a pic of the front of the car.

maybe have a little slot in the underside of the nose clip and have the plate just pull up...or if you are really good get another nose piece, attach it to the back and not have a plate mounted to it...then when you're parked it flips over revealing the other nose clip with nothing on it but maybe just a chevy symbol

i belive Autoloc makes a system similar to what your talking about...I've seen it on Mini trucks in the bed..
try looking up the "autoloc" company on google..you might be able to find what i'm talking baout pretty quickly..I'm sure there is a way to reverse it so the plate drops down rather than pops up.

Well after a lot of head scratching, full size sketches on the garage wall, Some Cardboard templates, More Head scratching it is starting to come together.
Made a bracket up to hold the plate that rotates on a pivot located behind and attached to the crash beam. Cut a hole in the underside of the nose piece with a die grinder to allow the plate to pass through it. (Don't ask what happens when you slip with the die grinder and hit the candy paint job!) Made some more cardboard templates, More Head scratching.
Finally ended up with a bracket that looked like it would work.
Now we have to make it move. More head scratching. Attached power window motor to pivot point to rotate bracket up and down. Worked OK but it moved so fast you could have chopped wood with it.
New Idea required...... More head scratching..... Go out behind the garage and dig old door out of the snow. take window rack out of door and mount 7 and 1/4 inch from pivot point. YEAH BABY!!
Held the motor in place by hand and she moves up and down beautifully...... Kind of Like a power window....huh go figure.
Need to mount everything up in place with good brackets now.
Pics to follow.

I posted on your other thread that you need to make a kit for these, or even sell plans. I think quite a few people would be interested.
Great work Ric.
I agree you could sell a ton of these on Ebay. Just the interest here shows that. You could single handedly prevent many of us from getting a ticket for no front plate as I see a lot of signatures with no front plates. Very cool
