Engine Value?

Hey, i've got an 87' TPI from a GTA and i was wondering what it was worth? its got less than 97 000 km's and has been rebuilt, but i don't know when. comes with alternator, wiring harness, everything just need to drop it in. also, theres the 5 speed from the 87, was wondering how much that would be worth as well if i sold them as a pair, but i'm more interested in the engines value alone. also whats that 700RS or w/e automatic transmission they used in third gens worth with around 200 000 km's on it? not sure if its been rebuilt but it works fine.

Re: Engine Value?

A 700R4 with that much mileage is worth about the same as a core would be. Either way it would probably need to be rebuilt. My guess, $150.

As far as the engine, is it a 305 or 350?

Re: Engine Value?

Yeah I'd agree. A stock '87 305 tpi with that mileage probably isn't worth all that much. It's the 350 that is sought out a little more. You'd make more cash parting it out. Of course the reality is that it's worth whatever the buyer is willing to pay for it. Including the wiring harness will fetch ya more.

Re: Engine Value?

yeah, i'm thinking something like 250-300 for the engine alone? i don't feel like going through the trouble of parting it out really. mind you the engine doesnt have many km's on it, its the tranny that does. but yeah, everyone has 305's >_< i'm trying to get rid of my 305 from an 84' berlinetta and the 87 305 as to drop a 350 in the camaro.

The complete TPI set-up is worth that much alone. And 97,xxx KM only equals out to about 60,xxx miles so the Roller motor is worth decent $$ as well.

Re: Engine Value?

Maybe in Rhode Island, but I pretty much had to give away my old 305tpi to get it out of the garage. The stock TPI is junk compared to the better aftermarket intakes now, which have dropped in price drastically.

I ended up finding a guy that wanted to put it in his pick up truck. I even had to help install it for him.

Re: Engine Value?

I didn't even bother trying to sell my 305, just scrapped it and it wasn't too bad of a motor really.

Re: Engine Value?

You will find someone interested in the tpi setup. I'd pull all that off, clean it all up and sell the complete intake setup. Its still a popular system for hot rod guys.

Re: Engine Value?

Well, i've got a current offer on the complete engine at around $500 and 800 for the engine+5speed. is that good? if i take the tpi off, and sell it i think the engine becomes worthless. i don't know.

That's a super offer! I paid only a little more than that and the rest of the 87 formula came with it!

Hurry up before they change their mind!

Re: Engine Value?

500 bucks is the most someone will pay for it. I am just being honest. Some pics would be nice. Never know I may need an engine come spring.

Re: Engine Value?

Since we are talking 5.0L - I'm after a late '90 or early '91 block # 14102058 or the #14093627 and a set of #081 heads - same vintage.
