Car wouldn't start after it was hot.

I stopped at the sitters to pick my boy up, engine was around 190. After I went to start it, it would just turn over and over, lots of fuel, no spark at all. I checked all the connections to the MSD box and dizzy and didn't find anything out of the ordinary. I figured I'd let it cool down abit and went inside talked with the sitter a bit. Ater about 1/2 hour it was about 160degrees, and it fired right back up. WTF?

Do these MSD systems have problems or what? the box wasn't hot to the touch or anything, my coil was warm, but nothing it hasn't been before. Anybody have any ideas?

BTW, it's a simple carb car, so there's no sensors or any related items. And it drove and idled fine before and after this happened.

Why would you suspect the MSD? Did you just install it, or....?

It's an MSD 6AL box, MSD Blaster Coil and MSD Billet distributor. It was a complete ready to run package with not much time on it.

Daz, you figure the module in the distributor is starting to crap out?

I'm with DAZ
HEI module in distributor..replace it and put silicon heat sink paste on the back of the new one. Happens a lot.

I would try a different coil and see if it makes a difference

Re: Car wouldn't start after it was hot.

It's a full non-HEI MSD ready to run system. I can't even replace the module myself, you have to send the dizzy back to MSD for repair so I want to try everything other than having to do that.

Yeah Daz, I have another coil, maybe I'll try that and see what happens.

Re: Car wouldn't start after it was hot.

I put another MSD coil in and I haven't had that problem since. It'll start at 210F with no problems other than a bit of starter heat soak.

Re: Car wouldn't start after it was hot.

Your starter is suffering from heatsink.

When it cools down some it kicks in .

yes, but heat sink is an object, heat soak is a condition.
