Barret-Jackson Auctions
I watched the Barret-Jackson auto auctions over the weekend (SpeedVision TV). What entertainment ! A Ford GT40 went for 1/2 million $$$ US. Alot of rare and interesting cars were shown and sold.
The only 3rd gen f-body that I saw was a '91 Firehawk that went for $19k USD which is about $28k CDN. The 3rd gen Firehawk is got to be my all time favourite. In fact my wife later asked "if you could have any car what would it be ?". No question, a 3rd gen Firehawk. They came with a 350 6-speed and T-ram plus heavily modifed brakes and suspension.
I think the unit that sold in the auction had 18,036 miles on it. What a beauty it was !
I was wondering if anyone knows about the RONAL rims used on this car ? I would like to re-create the 'Firehawk look' with these rims and haven't been able to locate any on the web.

Tah-daaaah!!!
Check out this thread.

I really want a set of these for my Z28. I e-mailed the rep at Ronal about 2 seconds after I read that post. He stated that they hope to have a new run done by spring. In my opinion, those are the finest looking wheels for a thirdgen.

I watched the auctions as well... that was a SWEEEET car!!!! I almost jizzed myself... actually, now that I think about it, I did have to change my underwear
Especially after that 1967 Yenko Camaro SS that went for $110,000 US.... that was a sweet car.... And, as much as I hate Mustangs.. that 1967 Mustang Shelby GT500 KVR? was a nice piece of machinery.
As for those rims, thats a tough find.... have you tried www.paradisealleyauto.com ?
Try that

If Paradise Alley has a set you are going to need to sell some organs to afford them. At least I would have to. The guy at Ronal said that they will likely be re-released this spring.

Somebody had to bring up FORDs...
I thought the GT500 KVR was pretty spectacular too. Hopefully the new owner will never drive it.... being the potential fire bomb that it is...
My all time favourite USED to be the '70 BOSS 302 Mustang. At one time I had a '69 MACH I as a daily driver (along time ago) that rusted out of course, and died a natural Ford death. I always wanted to replace it with a BOSS 302 but never did.
Since then I've found out -- thanks to the NHTSA and 60 Minutes tv show -- that my favourite Ford ('69-70 Mustang) was a TICKING TIME BOMB waiting to explode on me the hapless occupant.
No, exploding Fords are not relegated only to ancient Pintos. In fact any Fords made with the same body structures (Mustang, Cougar, Falcon, etc) of that era had the internally stored gas tank in the trunk. Get hit in the rear, puncture the tank and flaming gasoline envelopes the passenger compartment, typically through the trunk. I watched a number of interviews with terribly burned victims who suffered just that fate.
F**K Ford to H*LL because they knew about it and did nothing. All those years I drove my '69 Mustang I could have been hit and burned to death (just like one of those guys interviewed on 60 Minutes) a hit that I would have walked away from in a GM. In fact at one time I had a '73 Grand Prix that got rear-ended by a Ford Granada travelling about 80kmh and I got out of the car and walked to the phone booth to call it in. No problem.
Why am I so pissed at Ford after all these years ? Not because I might have been burned but because they are STILL building cars that BURN UP. Yes, I know what I am talking about. On many Fords the ECM module is on the top of the tranny tunnel where they pick up excessive heat and ignite ignition wires that run through the dash starting the dash on fire. I know of atleast one person who had to make a ROLLING DIVE from his burning '89 Cobra as it FLAMED ON during a trip on the 401.
Still don't believe me ? Check out http://www.flamingfords.com/ .
Or, goto www.google.com and search for FORD RECALL -- you will be shocked at what you find.
Friends don't let friends drive Fords. Don't drive a Ford, the life you save might be your own.
Well, now that I got that off my chest, have a nice day,
RP.

Wow.. I thought it was only the pinto's.... More reason for me NOT to buy a ford. What about GM's flame vehicle though? The 1970's pick ups? I know a friend of mine who loves ford, always brings that up.

FYI: the NBC storyline authors setup a GM truck to be hit by another vehicle at 50+mph dead on the gas tank then recorded the resulting calamity on video. The courts decided that ANY vehicle hit like that on the tank would suffer catastrophic damage -- Ford and Dodge tanks sit in the same relative position on their p/ups. NBC chose to target GM.
Ford, on the other hand, is facing the spectre of numerous CLASS ACTION suits for their repeated crimes against humanity (I think that given enough time their vehicles will burn more victims those at Hiroshima). Ford passenger vehicle fuel tank explosions happened at impact speeds at under 20mph. Think about it -- it could happen to you in a parking lot.
I suppose the event that turned me OFF FORDs for the rest of my living days was back in the early 90s when a Ford Aerostar lit itself up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This particular example of Ford engineering was parked outisde a daycare center and had 3 children inside it strapped into babyseats and ready to be bused home. The driver left the vehicle unattended for just a few moments, the ECM heated up, the ignition wires burned the dash, a fire was started inside the vehicle and there were no survivors.
The children burned to death.
The evidence of Ford negligence in engineering is overwhelming and incontroversial. Those who disagree simply have not looked at the facts and these facts are easily available with common internet resources. Other manufacturers have had engineering problems related to their product design but none of these, like Ford, have a 30+ year history of consistent repeated design issues that result in user deaths.
Check out the websites I posted. Forward them to your Ford loyalist. Who knows, you might prevent him from such a death.
I found these recalls after just ONE 5 second search at google:
"SEPT. 6, 2001 — Ford Motor said it had recalled more than 1.1 million Windstar minivans, Mercury Cougar coupes and Contour and Mystique small sedans because of possible fire hazards.
Ford said it sent recall letters to the owners of about 778,000 1999-2001 Windstar minivans after 10 reports of the windshield wiper motor catching fire. Of those vans, about 525,000 1999-2001 Windstars were recalled for a fire potential with the rear seat air conditioning/heating system. Reports of 27 fires from a similar problem with the air conditioning/heating system in the 1996-1999 Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique and the 1999 Mercury Cougar prompted the recall of more than 342,000 of those vehicles, a spokesman said."
"OCT. 30, 2001 — Ford Motor is recalling more than 1 million vehicles because a faulty switch on the windshield wipers could cause a fire. Ford spokesman Mike Vaughn said 40 fires have been reported in connection with the problem, but no flames have entered the passenger compartment. No accidents or injuries were reported, Vaughn said. The recall involves 2000 and 2001 models of the Ford Focus, Taurus, Expedition, Excursion and F-series pickups; the Lincoln Continental, Town Car and Navigator; and the Mercury Sable. "
I have three children and you can be sure of one thing -- when it came time to buy a mini-van I did not buy a F**king Ford.
Have a nice day,

You don't have to lecture me on Ford garbage.. I will never buy one.. As for my friend, he won't listen anyway, he is set in his ways. I heard something about the B/S that NBC put out on GM, but I wasn't sure on the exact story, all I know is that it is shoved in my face everytime we argue about what truck is better

No kidding, I was going to pay Ford to take it back. Within the first 18 months the Fuel delivery system had to replaced three times, the ECM died atleast twice (completely fried itself, just melted plastic on the firewall). The front suspension bent ALL BY ITSELF I didn't have to have an accident or hit anything. The electricals were possessed of an evil spirit that NO Ford mechanic/shaman could drive out.
But best of all the frame broke not once, not twice, but THREE times right at the exact same spot which was the steering box mount. Of course I had to pay for it to be fixed the first two times @ $1100.00 per repair even though it was still under warranty.
By the time it broke again (3rd time) Ford was having to bow to pressure as this was happening to many of their p/up trucks, so they paid for 1/2 of the bill. WOW was I impressed.
My brother bought a Ford p/up back in '98. Sofar he has replaced the engine and tranny plus miscellaneous other stuff. Typical Ford -- oh yeah his truck has about 55,000kms on it.
