On Monday I was going to get my car towed to the paint shop. But after finding out that the tow would cost around $250 to get there, I think I'm forced to drive it now. I'm a little worried now as the tires I have on the car are summer tires only. Any bit of snow on the roads Monday and I'm screwed. Any ideas guys?

I have Hankook's Ventus tires and they are hopeless on snow or ice. Just about any summer tire in a 245/50 16 will put you in a ditch in this weather.
If $250 is the best deal you can get for a tow either fork it out or wait a few weeks for the weather to calm down and chance driving it ?! Can it wait till the weather clears up abit ?
good luck,
RP.

What is the estimated mileage it has to go? My buddy got a flat-bed to tow his 1978 Vette from Welland (Niagara Region) to Hamilton. which is about an 80km drive, that costed $150.00.
Or, do as palric suggested, wait for dry weather and boot it over there quick.

I've got a set of 14 or 15" (can remember for sure) thridgen steel rally wheels that have winter tires mounted on them. If you want to borrow them to get your car to the shop, that would be cool with me. They are just sitting in my shed.
Sorry guys, but waiting is not an option. The appointment for the paint shop is already booked and it's gotta be done before Performance World...so unfortunately it's not something I can put off.
I made a couple more phone calls and about the cheapest I can get now is $160 (that's for 55KMs at $2/km and $50 hookup fee) for a flatbed. Still more than I really want to spend considering (depending on the weather of course) I may have to get it towed back as well. Driving is looking like my only option.
Kevin: Thanks, I may have to take you up on that. I've got a couple people to that have already offered so we'll see...One friend has a complete set of all seasons so they should do the trick...at least better then BFG g-Force's will do.

Know anyone with a CAA membership? They don't care who's car they tow as long as the cardholder is there to show the driver the membership card(had my neighbours car towed for him on my membership).Or just get a membership there. I think the basic is $85.00.
Yes, I'll be in Performance World. I'm helping out with the Toronto F-body Motorsports booth. But I'm sure I can get time away to hang out with some of you guys.
I called CAA to inquire, and unless the car is broken down they won't do it. I suppose I could fake a break down, but I was trying to be honest. And, not a major factor, but I was leary about using it unless totally needed, as you never know when you may actually be broken down legit and need a tow then. At last minute though, I can still fake it...it's either that, or they'll be pulling me out of the ditch some where between Mississauga and Hamilton.

No winters...I was forced to bring it out early one year in beginning of March and I had to drive it in a blizzard once...but that was only a 5 minute drive. After that, it sat in my parents garage until it was dry again.
So far Monday is looking ok...I don't care if it's cold, as long as the roads are dry.

As far as CAA is concerned...yes it is.
Not really, that was the excuse I was gonna use. But turns out they didn't even ask me at all. I said I needed a flat bed, it was there in about 30 minutes. The guy followed me out to Flamborough where the shop is and dropped her off. He never even asked me for my membership card!
Now the shop is gonna call me when he finishes setting out the flames. If I like what I see, he'll go ahead and start the painting. Hopefully I'll have an update and some pics for you guys in about a week.

Glad to see CAA worked out for you. I've pulled a few calls like that. Best was when i called and told them the car wouldn't start. When the driver got to the car, he said they normally require the car to have the motor in it. He towed it anyways
Thanks! I'm surprised someone on the list has seen or remembers that car. I went to Cayuga a few times with Daz when i had it, but that was about 2 1/2 years ago now. I miss that car.
The 85 was my favorite, but the one I wish i could have back out of all the ones I've owned, I'd take the 94 TA. It ran a 13.6 on street tires, and only a punched out cat, K&N FIPK and ported MAF. It was the quickest N/A car i've ever owned.

How far does it have to go?

CAA here I come!
