who can program chips close to us
I would like to know too! Eventually I would like to learn how to burn my own, but I've got too much on the go right now to take the time to figure it out. I'm hoping this Superchip that I picked up off eBay for a whopping $30 will work. The dyno will tell I guess!
Yup, the ADS one. I figured for $30 I would give it a try...if it doesn't work well, no big deal, I'll just turn around and resell it again. Much better than spending $300 to find out the same result. I was actually wanting to get the JET chip, but this deal was too good to pass down.
Of course a custom chip, if you can get one, is much better.

does anyone know this person?

A "custom chip" is no better than an off the shelf chip like PR, ADS or Hypertech. The only time you will need a custom burned PROM is when you have changed heads, cam, or intake. About the only thing an off the shelf chip is good for is fan control. You can get the same, if not better, results by playing with the timing and fuel pressure settings. However, $30 is a great deal. Last I heard ARE was using TheTurboShop in Cali for tuning. They mostly do OBDII stuff. If you are like me and don't have the time to learn how to burn your own PROM's (witchcraft), the best place for custom programming is Formato's (witchs). The 'Vette crowd swears by them but they are $500.

I've looked (briefly) at Formato's and I'm sorry but $500USD is not worth it in my books.
Custom chips are very much different than off the shelf and can benefit any car that is non-stock...no matter how little modifications have been done. Chips like Hypertech, ADS, JET are generic chips designed to fit all applications. No one car runs exactly the same and this is where the custom prom steps in. To say a custom chip is only for heads and cam cars could be no further from the truth.

The best results I've ever gotten from an ADS and/or HyperTech chips was increased fuel mileage and some added mid-range punch. I remember being under-whelmed by the ADS chip and marginally satisfied with the Hypertech chip. Some time ago I worked with Ed Wright on a hEaViLy modified TBI and spent about $500+ on chips trying to find a setup that worked in all cases. I ran out of coin and patience before we found a combo that worked. In retrospect I would have been better off dollarwise and timewise had I then been capable of burning my own chips.
If you have deep mods on your SBC then I suggest in the long run it will be more cost effective to get the tools to cut your own chips (PROMs). In fact it may be the only way to restore driveability.
Not wanting to make any serious mods to my 305 I expect I'll be buying a chip from Performance Resource or Ed Wright.
have a nice day,

I don't think we are on the same page about what a "custom chip" is. When you call Ed Wright, he asks you what you have done to your car. If you just have bolt-ons and have not made any major airflow changes, you get a stage 1 or stage 2. These are generic programs. They are a "onesize fits all" program for mostly stock cars. They change converter lock-up, advance the timing, turn the fans on at lower temps, and some change the fuel curves slightly. But they are all the same. Now, when you call Ed and you say you've changed the airflow capabilities of the engine in a big way, he beaks out a very long list of questions. This is where the chip is "customized" for your application. Even these chips are pretty general in that they are not really tailored perfectly for your car. The only way to get the perfect calibration is by doing it yourself and spending countless hours learning and making changes. Or you can call Formato's. They burn and take scan data until you are happy with the results.
No I think we're pretty much on the same page...When I refer to a custom chip, I mean one that has been tailored to your liking...ie: Formato's where you try it out and send it back if needed to be tweaked. Or editting the BINs yourself to adjust the fuel tables, highway mode, etc etc.. Those are custom chips. Many of the guys in the DYI ECM forum that burn their own are constantly swapping in and out chips until they find what works best. Like I mentioned before...not all cars are alike. We could both have identical L98's (same bolt on mods) and both cars might respond very well to an off the shelf stage 2 chip. Or one might respond well to the chip and another might run like crap. Generic chips like that are not for everyone.

Agostino have soembody that program their chips for them..They charge $750 and it includes the dyno..
High Tech Racing also programs and last I heard it was $500 includes the dyno also..I dunno if they both go to the same place
Dynopower or Dynojet I forgot the name..This dyno place in Scarborough is in contact with a programmer also..
It could probably be the same person..Dynojet charges $500 also

You are think DynoPower Services (DPS)...I would give Pete a call at High Tech Racing. I don't know why I never thought about that before. He's a good guy and he knows his 3rd Gens as well...he used to have a 11sec IROC.

Hey IROCKER
Would this Pete guy at DPS be the same guy that Danny T got his chip from? I seem to remember Danny telling me that the guy he got his chip from had a 11 sec Camaro.
I haven't installed the chip in my IROC yet 'cuz...well she is sleeping right now...cuddled up with a "77 Stingray and a '88 GTA...hehehe
When I do put it in I will drop you an email and let ya know....I am not sure if my car will even run with this chip
...but I am hoping it will work well...time will tell I guess.
In case you haven't figured out who this is... it's Stan..

STAN!!! How's it going? From all the snow I heard you guys got, it won't surprise me if you can't dig your IROC out till August!
Well, let's start off by saying that DannyT dude is a jacka$$...anything he says take caution. Any way, drop me an email and I can tell you all about that.
Pete owns High Tech racing and that might have been his chip. Not sure though.
