replaced the under hood heat shield

I bought a new under hood heat shield for my Formula. The original was missing so I picked one up from GM -- $89 CDN. Looks pretty good and took about 5 minutes to install (3 if I would have got it right the first time).

I'll be replacing the rad overflow jug as well. It looks like crap from brown gunk stuck to the walls of the jug.

Does this mean my cooling system needs cleaning ? I changed the anti-freeze last summer (did not power flush) and when I inspect the rad the stuff still looks bright green. Thoughts ? Comments ?

I don't think there is any way to get out of the gunk in the antifreeze container. There will always be somekind of corrosion in the system, and when it sits, it glues itself to the bottle.

I may think of getting a new thingy too

Powerflushing tends to blow heater cores out. Guess how I found that out

I wouldn't waste my money to buy another coolant resevoir, unless it is beyond repair. I cleaned out my '82 bird with no problem.
Remove your resevoir and soak it in Simply Green. Depending on how bad it is, let it soak for about an hour or two, then use a garden hose at full pressure or even better, a pressure washer( just be gentle with it). If there is still crud left, get a baby bottle brush and scub it out. Check my pics if you want to see the results before and after.Sorry my pics are so big, still learning how to use my Photoshop.

Took alot of elbow grease to get that engine compartment cleaned up, but it was worth it. I will have to do my T/A in the spring, or when it warms up. I also need a noise deadener. I don't have the original hood. The car had been in an accident at one time.
Oh well, atleast it has a good home now.

yeah.. i took a closer look at those pictures.. man you are wicked detailer... looks original in there. I notice in original cars... the engine bay isn't totally covered with pain, there is primer showing in some spots, like the lower strut towers... strange... I have to buff the engine bay with fine compund by hand dang overspray!!! Oh well.. thank *** the nody is straight as an arroy, cause if it wasn't.... it would look horrid, gotta love black!!

Last I called it was $26 at Stedelbauer GM. A cheap thrill.
