Att all people going to or thinking about going to Grand Bend

It has come to my att. that there will be no open night or test and tune for people wanting to race. this meens that we will not be able to race unless you enter your car in the points competion. to enter into the points races cost an extra $40. you must also meet the IHRA drag safty rules aswell(things like helmet, fire ex. fire suite and past their inspection)

that weekend they will have 6s cars like funny cars pro mods and jet cars

weekend pass and camping for the weekend will cost $80
just weekend pass will be $50
saturday pass $25
sunday pass and concert $30

if this was planed to be a race weekend maybe we should look somewere else

i was wonderign about that myself, cause the motorplex website said nothing about test and tune in there schedule for that weekend. test and tune is usually friday nights. i would love to go time when we can race cause i havent had a chance to run my car at the strip yet...and i going up against other f-bodies would be great.....mark me down for a vote for a change of time.

thanks for the info, dude

Im pretty sure Grand Bend is open for racing every weekend. But the weekend you guys planned on going, being a long one, there is always special things goin on. Every long weekend is a major event there i believe, with bands on the sunday nite. Regular weekends, they have bracket racing and that sort of stuff, where u can race anything u want. Ive seen brand new cars racing there, right from the dealer with window stickers still on them. Anyway jus a lil info for ya

86irokz,

you are definetly right about the special events on each and every long weekend. they do alot of stuff for the long weekends.

maybe like the weekend after we could have the gathering thing. i am imagine we would be able to race all we wanted that weekend.

http://www.grandbendmotorplex.com/

theres the website....i do believe they have schedules posted there.

friday may 24th is the first test and tune night...a week after the long weekend

mayeb that weekend would work

If everyone wants a different week-end, then we have to decide right now. The date has to be locked in so people have time to plan. Every year I've been there on a long week-end, they have had braket racing that anyone can enter.

I thought it would be more fun to go on a week-end when they have special events... but if you guys would rather it be more of an exclusive event, the management told me they would be willing to set up a class just for us on any other week-end.

i dont care what weekend we go as long as we can race...if we can race on may 2-4 long weekend we might as well keep that date...it wil be fun and the feminine presence in the bend is very strong that weekend.

i called the grand bend office and they said anyone can race just under the condishoins i staded in my last post. all i wanted to do is make all people aware that its a lot more effort to race that weekend, you can not just show up and drive onto the track like you can on a test and tune night. if you want to go to St tomas on the same weekend they have test and tune on the saturday from 10am untill 4pm(its not far from london for those that dont know)

i was just on IHRA web page. you can not get a the rules on line you have to buy the book so i can not give you a full list of the rules. BUT like i said if you want to race you have to have a min for safty equipment and meet there guide line. you will also have to stage when they tell you too not when you want. its possable you may even have do qualifing runs? It is an event weekend

We could just set another date just go raceing for people that want to race and still do Grand Bend.

The reason we picked that weekend was because of the events and because of the camping. If my email was working i would email grand bend myself and find out if we can race on that weekend but since i cant can someone do it for me please.

EVen if we're alllowed to race..IT would still be hard if theres an event..Long lines and race stoppage are frequent..My vote would be to move it to St.THomas

My vote is to move it but keep the same date. I imagine we'd be lucky to get 3 runs in each.

Okay, here's my suggestion...Keep the GB date for those that want to go and check out the races. Even if you're just spectating that weekend...it would still be a fun thing to do. Watching cars run 10 seconds and less is fun to me at least.

And for those that want to race their cars, this suggestion actually has a part A and part B. Part A would be for everyone to attend one of the St.Thomas drag events that TFbM is having. The first one is tentatively scheduled for May 25th. Part B would be to pick a Saturday some time in the future where either St.T or Cayuga is having a T&T and all of us head down there for that day. Part B I can't promise I personally will be attending as I already paricipate in all the TFbM drag events and the occasional Cayuga Friday night T&T's...But of course I'm just one person and there's no reason why I should hold up the rest of you.

Anyway, just my thoughts...

In all seriousness guys, you might want to consider joining TFbM...we need more third gens in the club. I'm kinda tired of having no direct competition at the drag events as I get my *** whooped 99% of the time.

Regardless, if Part B is the preference, check out their schedule and post some preferences on dates.

http://www.stthomasdragway.com/schedule.html

Any T&T Saturday open to all classes will work.

If u get a few runs in, thats a bonus... This wont be our racing weekend.. Than I say we pick a definate weekend and we will all head up to St Thomas, and show those Rustangs whut we got...

It seems everyone has a different opinion... even if we can't get many runs in, it is still a great time. I talked to the track management at Autorama in Detroit.... I am sure we can work out an arangement that will allow us to get some runs in.

Usually if you want to get around the IHRA stuff you can just sand-bag the dial in. The rules only apply to cars that dial in below certain ETs. I have a mustang friend who dials at 14.0 just so he doesn't have to wear a helmet. Then next time around he turns a mid 12.

It's probably not a good idea to try what I just said... I'm sure the track officials won't tollerate it for long.

I guess we could put the decision up to a poll.... but I am already committed to the bend that week-end. If you guys move it somewhere else, I won't be able to help.

I think we will keep the scheduled meet at grand bend for all who have planned for it. Not to worry, we will be having other events over the summer. One will likely be strictly racing... and we're thinking about getting Mosport for the end of the season (possibly with other clubs). The inablility to agree on a time and place is what destroyed the planned gatherings last year.

I think it is going to be like last year all over. Johny is the price $80 a person or for the campsite?

The price is usually around $80 if you want to camp for 3 nights, watch 3 full days of racing and watch the concert at the end of the week-end (usually 3 bands with Big Sugar or a band comperable to that being the headline).

If you just want one day of racing it's only around $25... to watch 6 second cars.

I can agree that the whole week-end is pretty expensive... but I already have a comittment to be there (outside of the site).

If the grand bend thing isn't going to work, I am up for planning another event for another week-end at another location, but I truly fear the same thing will happen. There is never going to be a scenario that is perfect for everyone. Let me know what you guys think.

The May 2-4 weekend is fine with me, I will still only be coming down for the Saturday. If you plan on anything else, that is fine too, however, if you try to plan anything during the peak vacation season (July & August), it could end up like last year. I know that anyone that has a family will plan vacations during this time.Just a thought,I know you can't please everyone.

I'll be at GB either way

Trigger GTA -- thanks for bringing it up. We can find out now or when we arrive at GBx. I prefer knowing in advance.

Fact is we had to know that a long weekend will be a seasonal event at the track that will probably just make the trip more entertaining.

We can still all meet and probably get a few races in as well. It won't be the same as the familiar deserted track during test & tune (making 10 runs in one morning).

On the other hand single digit cars (sub-10-seconds) are alot of fun to watch and there are alot of tuning and perf ideas to be had by hanging around them.

The purpose of the GB weekend was for US to MEET and while we were at it have a few races. I am looking forward to meeting you all.

RP.
