ThirdGenOntario.com...?

Just a thought....I figure we have a fairly large number of people here, and opposed to just resricting everyone to the BBS, perhaps we could come up with some sort of Thirdgen Ontario website...? It'd be a great reference tool for upcoming events, information, directions, and all of that...plus it could be more focused just on the Ontario members rides, perhaps get a bit more in depth with them...? I dunno, just saying things without thinking over here....

how is this site restricting us? this site already has all the thing you said
perhaps we could have a sticky on this site that would profile an Ont members car in stead.

Excellent idea...I've even been considering creating a Ontario Third Gen owners club. But a few issues come to mind right away with the website idea...One, who would manage it? This would require someone or a couple of people to volunteer their time. That probably wouldn't be too hard to do. Two, who would host the site? This requires a bit of research and money as to the best place and possible a small fee to rid it of any unsolicited advertising. Three, requires money to pay for the fee to reserve the URL for the site.

I'm sure there's more things too that I'm just not thinking of.

I didn't mean 'restricting' in an offensive way...I mean we can't very well have 'Ontario Ride of the Month' here, or whatever (well, we COULD, as you pointed out, this is just a better way to do it)...and what would be wrong with the Ontario members having a website of their own? As for $$, a small, free service would probably do for start-up - we already have a bulletin board here, so that wouldn't be an issue, and we don't need a www dot address right away...we wouldn't start off as a huge group, so I don't figure bandwidth consumption would be all that extreme...for the articles about each individual rides, we could simply collect all of those who have information and pics of the cars that they'd like up and have small sub-sites of their own, hosted through other places (chances are a good number of people already have these...) maybe it's a bad idea? I certainly would love to see different pictorials of get-togethers, with people contributing information for those who may not have been able to attend...meh, just a thought.

a sticky with a pic and info could be the ride of the month

I have acces to about 70 meg of webspace through cogeco. I would actually be using my friends webspace.. but its free... I'm not good at making flash sites, but I would volunteer to keep a basic looking site updated bi-weekly, maybe more often depending on the time i have.... especially in the summer.. I'll be out cruising any chance I get

I can do it... just let me know. You can check my website and see if you like the work I do. Like I said.. I can't do flashy stuff... I just use Frontpage

Well if you guys want.....My buddy Yop84Recaro and myself are in 3rd year Multimedia Design at Durham College and we can both come up with some killer stuff.

Here is what we know:

Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe After Effects (Video Editing)
Adobe Premier (Video Editing)
Macromedia Dreamweaver (Web Design)
Macromedia Flash (Web Design)
Macromedia Director (Flash's Big Brother)

I know Yop84Recaro is on his co-op right now so I don't know if he has enough time, but I am almost done so I will have some time on my hands during May.

I think this sounds like a great idea. Night Hawk, will you guys be making a vid of the Grand Bend weekend? I remember someone made an awesome little montage vid a few months ago. Was that you?

That video was done by Yop84Recaro, it was pretty good wasn't it? I don't know if I am able to get up to Grand Bend....I might be working, but I will see what I can do!

We both took a few years of video editing and audio engineering. I'd show you guys my videos, but they are very large to download (80 and 90Mb each) one is a Music Video and the other is a Movie Trailer.

Azure, Yop84Recaro and myself all have access to the college's digital cameras and digital camcorders.

*cough* First year Graphic Design, but with plenty of years prior experience....Photoshop, and the like.....I'll pitch in when I can. :lala: Actually, since I came up with the idea, I guess I should help a LITTLE...lol.

servers & permanent storage

I like the 3rd gen board and like that Ontario Region is part of the 3rd gen board. One of the things that makes it a great place to hang out is the incredible international diversity. IMHO one of the best car resource sites on the web. I say remain part of the 3rd gen site.

But if there is ALOT of interest in a go-it-on-your-own site, perhaps one created in addition to the 3rd gen site that is Ontario focused well .... I've had some experience with servers and database storage. Let me know if this would be of any use for your .com project.

RP.

I think the idea may have come across wrong - don't segregate ourselves from ThirdGen.org, but rather be a subsiderary - like "Thirdgen.Org, Ontario Chapter" or something. This place is the best resource there is for our vehicles, I'd never leave it...moreso just adding to it. Like under the heading "Ontario Region" on the BBS there could be a small link that says "Check Out Ontario Board Members Rides HERE"...or whatever.

I think just a site with Ontario Cruise nights and events, along with "Car of the month" and members rides section. I can set something like that up, and I have the space for it

Just thought of a cool vid idea...

One guy in the back with the camera, shooting scenes of thirdgens, pulling up to ricers, get them to go, and then blowing the doors off them, we can even have some cheezy vids like Beasty Boys"Sabotage" you know on the lines of those or something...

I like the idea of a "readers rides" section and profiling a different "members ride" each month.

Okay... I'll get something up as soon as I have spare time. All information will be in the website for "Car Of The Month" submission. I will try to get an Events Only board going on the site, this way, we can all pitch in our knowledge of events in different areas. But the message board wil be only for Events listing, everything else will take place here, since we don't want to step on thirdgen.org's feet

what about having a for sale board on our site. that way we could post what we have for sale and local people would see it and have an opportunity to ask us questions about it and stuff and it wont get lost in the huge thirdgen.org classified board. just a suggestion
