I haven't done a T56 swap... if I did it to my GTA, I would get into way too much trouble. I would have to say it is worth it, I think it would give you an edge on the track, and better gas mileage.

I had a website for the conversion process... I'll see if I can find it

I thought about it when my tranny died last year but I decided the expense would be too much. But to anyone that wants to do it, all the best as it would be a very sweet mod.

Palric, from what I understand, you will need.................

T56 Trans (duh)
T56 F-car bellhousing
T56 Hydraulics
T56 Clutch
T56 Flywheel
T56 Shifter
VSS Signal Adapter

I'm not sure if you need the 4th Gen. pedal set or not. I've read that you do and I have read that you don't. I plan on eventually doing the swap in my Z28. Besides, 6 speed just sounds cooler than 5 speed

still have to check out a Doug Nash, Tremec, etc
I still have to check out some OEM style replacements like DNASH, Tremec, etc but don't think these will do the trick as you cannot get a decent OD range, eg: .50 5th gear. Worse, they are rated to 325lbs torque on the average so what is the gain for the pain ?

Bottom line I think a 6-speed with 3.73s or 4.11s will really help in the powerband yet save me some rpms/gas on the hiway. FYI: my current setup with the .73 OD and 3.42s nets me 2600rpm and 120kph.

OUCH. I can watch the gas gauge fall. Of course the trade-off is the car literally hops off the line and is very fast to 70mph. I figure I get about 18mpg on the hiway in 5th gear.

Swapping to the T56 will set me up well for power improvements down the road as well.

Do you think it can be done for under $2k CDN or am I dreaming ?

thx,
RP.

Silver Streak Camaro.
Super Chevy magazine did a T56 swap on a third gen Camaro in detail on their Silver Streak Camaro last year (or the year before!).

If anyone is interested I will look it out.

Hi Palric.
Sorry for the delay in posting but, for some reason I cannot find the article! It was sometime early 2000 when it was published in Super Chevy. I will try and find this again! This could be anywhere in the house!!

Can anyone else help here?!!

Regards.
Andy.
