SuperRam owners - INSIDE!
I need some help! I'm almost finished with my SR install and I've hit another bump in the road - the wiring harness won't reach my MAF sensor! It's like an inch short of reaching the MAF and the "******* rigger" in me wanted to cut and splice the wires but I slapped myself upside the head and said HOLD ON!
How'd you guys get around the wiring harness being so tight? I have tall valve covers and the harness for the injectors is laid across the top of each valve cover - taking up A LOT of slack! Is there a quick and reliable way to lengthen the wires without cutting? Is there another adapter I can put on it to lengthen it?
I figure there has to be a way since some peeps with CAIs have moved their MAFs around in their engine bays.
Anyone? Anyone?

Mine fit no problem. You can always lengthen the wires, but I would not use crimp connectors, solder them.
You could also make an extension harness using original GM connectors, but that might be too much work.

If I have to cut the wires then the extensions I put on will be soldered on. I just wanted to know if anyone had a fix for this . . .
BTW, 89gta383, are you using tall valve covers? Did you have any problems with losing a lot of slack in the wiring harness?

I didnt have any connector problems but i ran my injector wires inside the runners and it was a PITA to do, but I think it looks cleaner. I also have the short valve covers. The only problem I had once it was all together I seen my EGR valve sitting on the bench
I guess i was in too much of a hurry.

Then the valve covers are my problem. Are you running aftermarket rockers? The gap between the runners and each valve cover is too tight - the harness won't fit in between.
Maybe it's time for some new valve covers . . .

Or you can remove the plastic covering on the harness, and get a smaller one. I wouldnt attempt to cut the wires and lengthen them, unless your are trained/experienced with soldering (like myself

I am a soldering master! But I still did not want to attempt to work on some wires that are over 13 years old just so I could get another 2-3 inches of play . . .
I'm going to remove the plastic covering and see if I can wedge the wiring down between the runners and the valve covers . . .

Yeah, takin off that plastic is your best bet. Just make sure ya protect the wires. I love solderin... I was trained by Lockheed Martin, and I used to get to solder all day. Now I do other things there, but I still miss that smell! "There aint nothin like fresh flux in tha mornin!"

I pulled the wire loom off of the wiring running to the injectors and it gave me enough slack to plug in the MAF. I'm just worried about what the heat will do to the wires if they are wedged between the runners and the valve covers. Will they get hot enough to melt the insulation? What can I do to protect them? Wrap them in electrical tape?! That'll be a lot of tape . . .
BTW - I got my soldering skills in the Air Force as a radio tech. I know what you mean about flux fumes. AF made us start buying lead free solder! What fun is that?!
