Whatever size threads are in sportsman II's

I didn't verify yet...

But they look visual to be the same size as a spark plug, I've just built up my entire long block, the heads are burried in valvecovers/intakes/headers, and i find out a CTS is to big for the alloted sensor hole....

Don't make this too complicated...can't you simply find a brass adapter that will work?

It may take some searching at various parts stores...and be sure to seal it properly or it will leak...ask me how I know that one

I considered a 3/8ths to 1/2 NPT fitting.. But this would move the 'sensor' part out of the direct flow of the collant passage and shroud it with the brass fitting, I think that would effect the accuracy....

I don't think it will affect it too much, if at all. The coolant is flowing by under pressure and coolant is great for heat transfer, obviously...plus we are talking about a really short distance here that the CTS will be out of the flow by. It isn't like the coolant cools off by 15 degrees for every half inch away from the flow...

I say try it and see...

Well i certainly considered it.....

But the other side of the coin is if it DOESN'T work (reading is off more than 10°) It sure would be a b1tch to pull the heads after the engine's in the car.

If you think about it...you are pulling the tip of the sensor about maybe an inch out of the coolant stream, right? The coolant is pressurized and flowing by, it will continually mix with the coolant in that little pocket created by the extra room cause the sensor tip is further out...

In theory, it is tough to tell IF you will have a temp loss/accuracy issue. I don't think so. The heat trapped in the head won't allow the coolant to dissipate enough heat in that short distance to be a measuring issue...

Good luck with it.

Chode:

Any clue what size it was?

I bought a supposed 3/8ths / 1/2" one, the sensor fits into the adapter, but the adapter is way to small for the head so I'm assuming its 7/16'ths and 1/2"

Let me know, thanks.

Well the hole deffinatly isn't NPT unless Its either metric of 5/8ths which would be pretty weird

3/8ths slides straight in, 1/2" is the size of the sensors...

(to big)

anybody with sportsmans?

Buy yourself a 1/2" NPT tap and chase the threads in the existing hole. There is no NPT sizes between 3/8 & 1/2".
