question about high idle...
hey guys, well, as usual ive been workin on the Formie!! we've had kind of a bad day today. she won't stop high idling!! i can pull the pedal up with my toe sometimes but i know its not a mechanical part sticking because when the car is not running its as free as can be. but when its running if you are underhood working the throttle lever by hand you can feel a little bit of stickyness. i tried to adjust the IAC like it says in the tech section, and this poses my other question. why won't my car idle down to 450 like the tech article says? anything below about 800 and it dies. so i adjusted the idle (minimum air) to about 800 and hooked the IAC back up. i had to play around with the TPS to achieve this, which i know is wrong, since it isn't mentioned in the tech article. the only vacuum line i know to be unhooked is the one below the TB, by the thermo housing. it doesn't matter because ive had it hooked up and it made no difference. everything seemed as alright as i could be until i had my fiancee turn the car off and start it again, then it idled high again and started its normal f'up routine again. please help me fix this otherwise good car, before i go insane, because i refuse to sell it.
i love her too much!!

If you can pull the pedal up and that fixes it, then it IS a mechanical problem. See, when the car is off, theres no vacum applied to the throttle blade, hence them moving freely. But when its running, there is alot of vacum, and TB's have been known to wear out, causing the condition your describing. I would suggest gettin an aftermarked 52mm throttle body, or sending your existing one out to be bored and rebuilt.
Good luck!

that might be the problem, but i wanted to ask a question. on the way home from my fiancee's house i noticed a hissing sound when the brake is applied, does that signify a leak in the power booster? would that cause my problem? actually i need to update you, i seem to have fixed the high idle, it is now just an erratic idle/occasional stall, and still i have my detonation problem.
