Starter will not engage (88 GTA)
When I turn the key to start I get nothing from the starter, no noise, nothing. It's like if you tried to start a manual car without the clutch all the way in. There are no codes, and I checked the starter and it is still good, there just isn't any power going to it. I don't think it's the VATS becuase the security light goes out, I believe the light will stay on if there is a problem. Any ideas where I should start next...if anyone has a complete wiring diagram I might need it.
That happened to me and it was the ignition switch. I pulled one out of a junkyard car.
It is also possible that the starter has completely took a ****. Solution=Buy a new starter.
Also, Check the connections to the starter. You never know.

Once that happend, I towed my car from the wrong place and fu**ed up my hood latch, turned out all i had to do was touch a loose wire to the starter. I baught a new starter for no reason as well. Good thing the old one really was broken too, the selanoid was bad.

The other possibility is that the neutral safety switch is bad...the one that won't let you crank until you are in park or neutral...
I would check that out and bypass that switch to see it is the problem..

IROCZ88, I know they're both good because I just replaced them a year ago. But I did find out what was wrong. There are two yellow wires in the ign. tumbler that are part of the VATS, and one of those wires was clipped off. It's one of the worst designs I've ever seen.....two stationary wires connected to a moving part
