Running rich

OK.. I just got my 3rd gen bird a about a half a year ago, an 85 T/A with TPI. Bing in the middle of winter when I got it and no place to work on it indoors I wasn't able to do much with it.
After the weather started warming up I fixed alot of the things the other guy distroied on the car (i.e. took a tourch to the springs to lower the car, I had to resprinng the car, new shocks and struts.) This guy liked liked playing with the wiring as well and I'm still sorting most of it out..
But my problem is my car is running rich and back fires when I let out of the gas hard. The timing is right on so I know it isn't the timing. What could cause this and how would I go about fixing it..

Did he install a adjustable fuel pressure regulator? If he did is it cranked up?

How is the 02 sensor doing? might be time for a new one.

Also the Fuel pressure regulator if stock could have torn and you're getting to much pressure past it.

The O2 sensor the MAF and the TPS are all new and adjusted to specks (3rd gen f-body book). I don't know about the fuel pres reg, if its after markit or what.. I'll look into it.. original engine (it is a 305). It even had the wrong starter on it.
I have a 355 I'm going to drop in but I want to get all the electroics working first (this is my first Fuel injection/computer cotroled car).. Thanks
