i blew my engine, need advice on what to do next

i have a 92 z28 with the 305 and i recently threw a rod. the mechanic said he can fix it for 2 grand, but i'm not paying that kind of money to end up with the same thing. so i was thinking about going to the junkyard and buying a 350 from a truck or something and then buy a rebuild kit and a cam and put it all in. should i just go with that? please help, thanks.

Yeah Id either go that route or buy a crate motor. You could get the 350 HO with 330 hp and 380 IBS torque. You would need a intake for vortec heads though, but you mys well do that anyway. Get the highflow base for it. I believe the 350 HP is in the 2200 range which is pretty good for that much power.

If you're gonna do all that, I would just look for a 350 block, that way you won't have the trouble of tearing down the motor. It'll save the gabarge men quite a few pounds when throwing the old parts out. The engine kit sounds good and with a good size cam like the LT4 hot cam, you should be on your way.
