rough idle - need help

My '89 Formula 350 has a rough idle that will rock the car when the motor gets hot. The code I get is a 34 - MAF sensor. Is it possible that my Mass Air Flow sensor is bad and causing a rough idle?

I was going to change plugs and wires first since they are old.

What wires are good to get? Accel? Which kind of accel are good, there is several kinds of accel wires at advance. What is the adantage of 8mm or 8.8mm or 9mm?

Please help,
Thanks!!!

You can replace your plugs & wires if you think its necessary. MSD's wires have always worked very good for me. But honestly I doubt that your problem. You may want to change out your MAF relay before you jump into anything else. Its about $13 for a new one and its located on the driver's side firewall next to your fuel pump relay.

They recommend replacing the O2 sensor every 30K.

I have an 88 TPI 350 Iroc Z I have been getting the same code for months I took it to my mechanic and the scan tool he used said my computer and prom were bad cause he couldn't comunicate with the computer so I replaced them. Then I replaced the MAF, the relay, the plug for the relay, and the plug for the MAF. I still get the code even after I reset the computer. I know this didnt help you but I figured if I put this in this thread someone could probally help the both of us. I did pass the Texas treadmill emissions test today even though I had to go down to the muffler shop and replace my 2 yr old high flow cat. with a new one to get it to pass.

John,
Sounds like a wiring issue, check all your connections.

As for me I'm going to try replacing plugs. and then maybe O2 sensor

I've repaced the O2 sensor and all the connection have been cleaned(most have been replaced with new ones) with contact cleaner, small wire brush and put some dielectric grease on them to ensure no moisture. Thanks for the advise any more will be greatly appreciated. John
