198? Camaro 350Tpi in Chevy Truck

I have a chance to buy a 8? 350Tpi Camaro FOR $500 ... , but I wasn't sure if there was anything special about the TPI that would make it "Realy" worth it... I just sold my 82 305 carb and I am not to sure about the TPI, either it's good or not good to fix up...

Also I was thinking if the engine ended up being worth the buy, but the body just sucks... How hard would it be to pu the 350 in my 90 Chevy Truck 1500 2WD... I have now a 305EFI Throtlebody w/ a 3sp auto ... Could I do a easy engine swap? Would my tranny die and if so, would I be able to use the tranny from the Camaro?

Any info would be awesome!!!

Thanks...

Also, If anyone knows of a good Chevy truck messageboard... let me know... I haven't seen to find any!!!

Thanks again!

I think that the TPI engine used to be in the late 80's early 90's chevy and GMC 1500 trucks. They liked the torque for towing. Then they switched over to the vortech engine. Dont quote me on this but I am pretty sure it wouldnt be hard at all.

The TPI was never used in a truck, TBI was. The TPI would be a great swap for a truck. You will need the complete harness, ECM, as well as the TPI induction & the engine itself. The trucks used a 700R4 trans, same as the Camaro. I would use whichever was in the best shape, however 87 & newer 700R4's are better designed.

I knew it was an engine that was the same as in some of the 3rd gens. Thanks for clarifying.

That's true. 2500 series & up usually had the TH400 trans. the older 1500's had the TH350C. In 82 they started using the 700R4 in the 1500 series.

Also depends on what model of truck you have.

www.coloradok5.com It's mostly older trucks, but there is a ton of info on there. There was actually a thread a week or two ago about converting TBI to TPI

IF you have a 3 speed auto and it is the original it IS the 400

Did you swap engines (TBI 2 TPI) ????
TBI to a TPI I heard, when swaping engines wasn't that hard!

I hope I can get it!

Swapping inductions systems vs. complete engines are not the different.....in electrical terms. Mechanically there are some issues, but nothing too extreme.

As for what I did?? The first swap was just the induction components, TBI-->TPI. The second swap was a complete engine setup, superram/406. Now I am doing a superram/stealth ram swap.
