Mysterious Phantom Starting
Just finished my TPI conversion, but let me cut to the chase. I first set the distributor in, eyeballed the timing, and had a friend crank it over so I could check the base timing (with computer advance disconnected). My friendt fired it right up and had about 18 degrees advance and idled at about 1200. I set the base timing to 6* then shut it down. Reconnect ECM timing. Tried to start it again ten minutes later, and the thing would just crank, but no fire. Tried it about 3 times. Another ten minutes go by, I disconnect ecm timing, my friend bumped it over, and it fired right up, I adjusted the idle speed screw to allow it to idle at 675-700 rpm, then shut it down. Put some more coolant in it, reconnect ecm timing, and went to fire it up ... it cranks but no fire. So I disconnect the ecm timing again and it won't fire. It has done the same thing for the last 24 hours no start with or without ECM timing. So I go buy a new module, cap and rotor, plugs, and put all that on ... still cranks, but no start. Fuel pressure is 45 psi, the plugs were wet with fuel when I pulled them. ECM trips no codes.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to give me more stuff to check, or offer creative insight as to why my car doesn't start, or belittle me for my swap attempt. This message will self destruct in 5 minutes.

You replaced most of the ignition, how old is your coil? You know the injectors are firing, so I wouldn't replace the pickup coil if you get the urge to. You've got an extra module now too. Keep that around.

If you have a scanner, check and see what the computer thinks coolant temp is. If the sensor fails, the computer sees -40 degrees, and just DUMPS gas in. Although, given your symptoms, I am not sure if this is going to be the problem.......

New MSD coil, so I don't think that would be it. The coolant temp sender might be an issue ... I'll look into that. Anyone else

Is this a cold start injector car could be faulty or leaky. Otherwise leaky injector?
Could be a new coil bad out of the box. Could be that for whatever reason it ended up wetting downthose plugs and now it just doesn't want to fire or run right, which further compounds the fouling?
Bad MAF? Flaky ECM. Something else really dumb like a banana in the tailpipe?

No cold start, I'm running speed density.
Bad coil: It started once, and it will throw a spark from a screwdriver in the wire to the wiper blade ... I think that's a good sign.
New plugs, new ECM, and tailpipe is banana free . Like I say, I trip no codes.

Take the plug off the top of the cap that comes from the coil and stick a paper clip in there and crank it over and keep that paper clip about 1/4in away from a good ground. Crank it over and see if that throws a spark if it does then dont worry bout the ignition anymore. Then bring the engine around to top dead center on #1 cylinder. after you do that check to see where your rotor is pointing.(it should point to #1 spark plug wire almost dead on. Ok if thats all good. crank it over for a little while see if it fires if not open that throttle body and take a wiff and see if you can smell fuel. if you can thats a good sign but if not then something is wrong.
