tpi baseplate & intake

couple questions rolled into one post...im looking into gettin new runners...i want ones that will give me most hp..i saw edelbrock hi flow ones and then i saw the edelbrock hi flow baseplate...sounds like this would be cool to me, anyone have this stuff-can vouch for performance? is it worth the money to replace the baseplate in favor of something like this for the money-700ish? also, what are the benefits of porting the plenum and where can i have this done or how is it done? same with ported runners...thanks

If you are stock there is NO point in upgrading the tpi intake, especially for a 305, tpi flows just fine for a 305.

But I do recomend for that kind of money, instead of buying a 600 dollar edelbrock setup, why dont oyu guy a 600 dollar STEALTH RAM setup

Sadly, the stealth ram isn't street legal.

You could get runners & an intake base, I have SLP Siamese runners, but they are stock runner size, just siamesed on the plenum/runner side to give ya more top end HP & are meatier for future porting.

If you had Headers, cat back, and a cam, I would invest in runners.

but if you have neither, get those 2 first.

everyone has the misconception that a cam swap is hard, it isnt at all , its just time consuming, but you can get one in, in a weekend. Just do one simple thing, take pictures and take notes.

As these guys already told you, there is jut no point in significantly modifiying a peanut cam car while it still has that pathetic grind in there. They just do no respond to mods, especially intake work. They just don't move any air, so you don't need to open it up any further, they can't use it anyway.

I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear, but it's the truth. If you throw a bunch of money at a peanut cam car and don't replace the cam you will still have a slow car, there is just no way around it. And then you'll just hate the car for being a slow money pit.

Before you get all excited about changing the runners on your 305 TPI, do a little homework to determine where the greatest restriction exists in your intake tract. (HINT: It isn't the runners.)

Check these files for some flow calculations, data, and hints:

Air Flow.pdf

Plenum Porting.pdf

do exhaust mods first. headers and cat-back.. they allow all the other mods to live up to thier potential.

intake and cam changes will be seriosly hindered by a stock exhaust.
