AZ Speed & Marine LTR's

AZS&M makes a claim of +25hp +30tq on a STOCK 5.7 - so i'd hope for +15hp and +20tq... any of you got these on your cars and if so were they worth it? After I get my exhaust headers all the way back, im looking to power up the TPI induction system cause I wanna stay TPI, and I'm in knots about all the friggin choices I can go with!

They are supposed to be the best, but 25hp and 30tq sounds a tad generous, especially on a stock tpi. But the more you add the more they will help so if you have the money go for it. Maybe you want to take a look at accel's superram plenum/runners. Go for about 700 or so, though sometimes you can find em cheaper. If you're strapped for cash maybe go with cheaper runners, port em yourself, and use the saved cash on something nifty like roller rockers or cam.

I hear superram is a good plenum and runners set - but its not TPI right? I want a TPI car, stock TPI plenum ported with good runners and then stock ported heads, budget rockers etc etc. I am low budget and cant afford to have a car layed up for long periods of time. Its my daily.

So wouldnt superram require more mods along with the plenum and runners for compatability? Forgive I know nothing of the popular intakes cause I owned a 3.1 for a long time, this is my first 350 TPI! =D i love it.

Told ya Another possibility is the vortec tpi setup. For not much more you can get the tpi manifold and upgraded vortec heads. www.sdpc2000.com This setup seems to come alive after adding some roller rockers and a cam. Oh yeah, and you still have stock tpi, to which you can get even more insanse and eventually add superram plenum and runners

I was set on the SDPC thing for a long time, but I figured if i didnt come around to rockers and heads soon after Id be cutting off power at the neck.

The superram is a huge gain on a stock engine! And I won;t even try to imagine what happens after heads and camshaft (w rockers of course)

I think you put a huge bee in my bonnet (not to use a fruity saying or anything)

Well if you're just getting the plenum and runners for 700 you arent going to see a HUGE gain. You'd have to add the intake manifold too, and when you add all that money up your getting close to sdpc and vortecs.

Does the superram allow for higher RPMs? I know everyone here with a TPI knows it chokes at about 4500...

Also - I plan on getting the base manifold as well, but that comes after the plenum and runners. I think - im going to save up and buy the plenum and runners and leave em in the box, then save up and get the manifold and slap it on all at once.

From what I hear it boosts the powerband to 6000 or so...assuming the rest of your engine can handle that.

My point is if you're getting base and plenum/runners thats gonna run you about 1000, for just 200 or so more you can get the upgraded vortec head kit with tpi manifold, rockers, bolts, pretty much all you need.

I dont want the SDPC though, I have L98 heads already - figure i'll port those rather than buy new heads. Budget ya know.
And i'm not shooting for a 12 second car or anything, i'd be happy with mid 13's. Not to say I would MIND 13 flat =)

I went from 14.2 to 14.1 with the edelbrock base and ASM runners. I didnt care for them.

B.S.!!! AS&M LTR are not the best. AS&M are like 20 mine from my house, and i occationally go there and see what they have in,, but as far as LTR's their runners are crap!! ur best LTR's are TPIS.

If I remember right TPIS runners are just rebadged AS&M runners. IE same thing, but more expensive.

no, AS&M runners are heavier, dont disapate heat better, and are smaller then TPIS.

AS&M runners are the same as TPIS.

I ran 11.9 with my AS&M runners and
agree they are the best out there..

The SuperRam is better known as the
Super PITA for those that have it..

If you want to run a true LTR-TPI, the
AS&Ms are the way to go..

How does the Accel/Lingenfelter Runners compare to the ASM or TPIS or SLP or Edelbrock runners?

Hey, D Stoy H8; I too did low budget mods until overhaul. Ported plenum and base myself, modified MAF, ported and polished heads 1.94/1.50 L98, and had custom prom burned, plus gutted the cat, put undrive pulleys on, made my fuel pressure regulator adjustable, put on 1.6 ratio comp roller tip rockers and made for significant gains on performance in 86'T/A. 14.2@98mph consistant. Also installed "Fast Pack" From TPIS with air foil and platinum 4 bosch plugs and TPIS spiral core wires. After rebuild--Added .488int./.510exh.hyd.cam from summit with 114*centerline which helps with vacuum at low idle, world product torquer heads 2.02/1.60;170 intake runner 67cc combustion chamber, edlebrock headers, flowmaster muffler 3" inlet dual 21/2 outlets like factory, TRW forged 0.030 pistons, Total Seal TSS rings, Fluid damper street version harmonic balancer, Crower roller rockers 1.5 bought from guy who needed cash barely used. Installed 3:27 disc brake rearend from wrecked Iroc with new boxed in trailing arms and massive sway bar from Iroc. Also new poly bushings for sway bars and new panhard bar from TPIS. Had shift kit installed at transmission shop with deep B&M pan and I installed quick silver shifter(wished I had spent money and got hammerhead instead) but still works great and performs flawlessly to the tune of 13.1@107mph. Course TPIS helped alot they are great folks, they upgraded my prom to make it scream and still gets average of 20-24 mpg; worst mileage to date is 18 playing real hard. Hope this gives you insight to your goals for me it was my life's dream come true and the way the car should have come from the factory.

Thats a nice layout man - im gonna copy that and use it for ideas in the future =)... heres what I had in mind:
(keep in mind this is the first car I'm ever gonna mod)

1990 Iroc-Z 5.7 TPI
-Gutted air boxes w/ K&N's
-TPiS TB Foil (used! save $)
-MSD Blaster Coil w/ MSD 8.5mm superconductors, Dist/cap/rotor
-AC Delco plugs
-Ported&Polished L98 Cast Iron Heads
-Some camshaft some roller rockers (need to learn more)
-Dynomax 1 5/8 Coated Headers
-Dynomax Super Catalytic Conv.
-Dynomax CatBack 2.75 w/ One of thier mufflers
-Super Ram Plenum, Runners, and Base.
-Trans-Go shift kit
-Vigilante Torque Converter higher stall (not sure how high)
-Subframe connectors
-Strut Tower Braces
-Panhard Bar(s)
-Torque Arm
-Better shocks & truts
-Lower Control Arm(s)
-Better radiator
-Tranny cooler
-Lower temp thermo w/ fan switch

This is rudimentary first draft of about everything I'd like to accomplish. This could take a very long time but hopefully I can land a much better paying job... 8.50/hr aint cuttin it. =P

Whatcha think? Mid 13's with all of this? This is what I hope for.
