fuel pump voltage

My car wouldn’t start today. I immediately looked at my fuel pressure gauge, which was at zero. I parked it last night and it was running fine. I can hear my fuel pump run when I turn the key. I plugged in my scanner and I am getting zero volts when I turn the key on. When I crank I get around 12 or so volts on the scanner. I checked the fuse at under the hood and it is fine. I also unplugged the fuel pump and sender under the trunk and am only getting 6.2 volts. I know that is low, but should it turn the pump? Why would I get 12 volts on the auto xray and only 6 at the tank? Any help?

Try running a different wire just to test if it makes a difference and if it does then you'll know that your original line may be bad. But, did I understand right about the fact that the fuel pump primes when you turn your ignition on? If it does I would imagine it should run, but don't quote me on that! I hope it helps.

More than likely, dirty contacts on the pump relay or a corroded wire dropping the voltage.

I ended up just running a new wire to my pump. The contacts didn't look bad at all, but I think the wire is probably shot somewhere along its path. It works fine now with a new wire.

Does that mean that the car is running?
