Going to look at a 92 Z28 tonight
Ok. So my car has given me enough crap to warrant a search for a z28. I dont want to go w/ a 4th gen so my search brought up a 1992 Z28 w/ a 305tpi...69k miles, mint condition, yadda yadda. The dealership wants 6900, blue book is 7k. Is it worth the buy or should i keep looking? Money is tight and this would be quite nice to start me off on the right track. Oh ya, it has ttops too :lala:
With that mileage I think its worth it. I have a 91 z28 350 and I love it still after having it 11 years! Also those cars are getting harder and harder to find! I would get it if I was you! Good Luck dude!

For the price they're asking you should expect a mint car that needs absolutely nothing.
That means NO rust whatsoever. Is it 5-speed? You'll regret buying a 305/Auto for that money...
Make sure the paint is flawless, not a scratch.
Everything should be perfect...

He said MINT condition!! An I would rather have an auto any day over a five speed if thats what it has. All he has to do is put a 350 with new injectors and prom and he would be set. And his insurance will be less because they think its a 305. Also nice looking car easy I have a RED 91 like that

Thats about what i paid for my convertible, 80k miles, definitely needing some work on it though. Verts are a different animal though.
Is it worth it? If it's the car you want and you can afford it, it always is. Really nice thirdgens are getting harder and harder to find. You might stumble into one occasionally, but most of the time, no way. And thus while that number isn't much for value, i could see myself easily paying that much for something like that if i was in the market again.

Well all i'll say is that on Monday I am picking up a 1991 Z28 L98 (Hardtop)with 74,000 miles in excellent shape for $5,800
It Is getting harder to find nice ones with low miles these days... but for $6,900 if you hold out for a little while you can probably find one just as nice if not nicer with a 350 for the same price or cheaper

I would offer the dealer $6,000 cash. Must be cash dude - money talks and then I'd lay 8 to 5 theyd sell it for 6,000 bucks. That's one thousand dollars under book.
Yes, the car will do better in the 1/4 mile than your RS. I did a search on KBB.com and that car retails for $7950 here in Hawaii, so I would buy it. It is a 25th ann. edition, not a big thing, but that was the last year of the 3rd Gen, so it is desirable. Buy it before somebody else does.

I am not sure if it is this way all over but a 305 is not going to have cheaper insurance than a 350. In the insurance companies eyes a V8 is a V8 no matter what displacement it has.
I would say for that price there should be something out there that is right up your alley. I would day pay no more than 6K for that thing even then I would still be tentative. I paid 5K for mine with 47K miles 3 years ago and I thought that it was a smokin deal so I am sure that you could find one for cheaper. On the other hand if you are tight on money this thing should give you many years of worry free driving. Unless you start modding it.

I got lucky and got my 92 L98 Z28 back in 97 for $6800 with 27.8k miles on the clock and it was MINT. Now a days tho you hardly ever see a clean 3rdgen, most are ragged out and abused but if its that nice Im sure a cash offer will get you lower number than what they are asking. In the end as stated it has to be worth it to you, if its that nice and you like it and can afford it go for it...

I picked up my 92 GTA mint with 78K for 6K about a year ago. All it needed was tires. You should hold out. 93 Z's are going for 6 and less now.
Maybe offer him 5500. never pay retail. I usually take the difference between retail and trade-in and make an offer on the low side of the middle.

so he cut me a deal..but i love it to death if u r into power at all dont get it find a 350. i like my 305 but i was going to change it to a 350 before i wrecked it. u will have more money into the swap then u would expcet. 350s r a good platform to start upgrading and makeing more power easy. thats just my thoughts.

I got my 91Z in december of 99' for $2600
it needed some body work on the passenger fender. and it came with the borla exhaust, new tranny rebuild with transgo shift kit, cross drilled rotors all the way around, 3.73's, hooker headers (not installed), AFPR, and a few other goodies.
for the downside: it had 140K miles(although with that many miles It would run high 13's all day lond). the previous 2 owners were both under 20 (you know what that means). and the interior needed help.
I have put alot of money into it. I like the deal I got on my car but I spent more money then I would have if I would have bought a low mileaged 91-92.
so choose wisely.... just because you find a cheap one doesnt mean your getting by with a better deal.

Hey dude, If you like it and the wife likes it. Buy the dam thing. MINT is a keyword. Like most of the guys here. You may never want to or have to run a 1/4 mile in less than 15 seconds.

yep, i'm with everyone else, it better be MINT.
if you want it for performance, and you want an auto, hold out for a 350/L98 unless you plan to do an engine swap regardless.. in other words if you want to go to a 383 no matter what, then sure get the 305.
I paid 6500 for my near mint 91 Z28 5.7 about a year ago now...had 85,000 on it. in retrospect, i paid about $500 too high for the car, but oh well - the bummer was that the tranny didn't shift at full throttle and i didn't test drive it correctly to find out until AFTER i bought it. (see sig for pics)
I'd recommend at least one good, full throttle run through 1-2-3 gears with the trans in D or OD. if the owner won't let you do it, then ask the owner to do it. If they refuse, suspect trans problems.

Dude, My 92 B4C 1LE Camaro is still for sale!!! 5.7l TPI Posi, 4 wheel disc with the 12" brakes up front Aluminum driveshaft, less than 600 built in 92. and a reasonable price!!! But even if you dont by it, And want something else you'll regret a 305 auto, get a 350 or a 305 5 speed. I had an 87 305 auto, what a dog!! I sold that and bought an 87 5.7 w/130k on the clock it ran 14.0's @99 only with a Banks y-pipe & Cat-back, I paid $1500 for it but had to have the trans rebuilt & some interior work had to be done. 305's are great engines but they weren't built for performance.
